PREVIEW
Tech travels to Stillwater for the first time since 2019 for a tilt with the seventh-ranked Cowgirls who are winners of their last four games, three coming via run rule. The Red Raiders look for their first win over Oklahoma State since 2016 and first win in Stillwater since 2015 as they open the series Friday night.
The Cowgirls rank second in the Big 12 in team batting average (.312) and team ERA (2.19), trailing only the top-ranked Sooners. OSU leads the league in fielding percentage (.978) with just 15 errors so far on the season.
Oklahoma State bolsters a pitching staff ranked in the top 30 in the country, led by the Big 12 strikeouts leader Kelly Maxwell and back-to-back Big 12 Pitcher of the Week Miranda Elish. Maxwell, Elish and Morgan Day each rank in the top 10 in the league in strikeouts per seven innings. Offensively, the Cowgirls' bats rank second in the Big 12 in home runs with 36 so far this season. Cheyenne Factor and Julia Cottrill are tied for the team lead and fifth in the conference with eight home runs this season.
While the Red Raiders sit at the bottom of the conference in batting average, they rank third in ERA (2.58) paced by the Big 12 leader in wins (11) and shutouts (5), Kendall Fritz. Fritz shared the Big 12 Pitcher of the Week award with Elish on March 15, following a scoreless 3-0 weekend and her first collegiate perfect game.
The top of the Tech lineup has been on fire lately as Arriana Villa, Payton Jackson and Carson Armijo rank on the top of the team in most offensive categories. Jackson, whose .382 average is 10th in the Big 12, leads the Red Raiders in average, hits (26), extra base hits (13), runs (18), slugging (.691), on base percentage (.475) and walks (12). Villa leads the Red Raiders in RBI (20), home runs (5) and ranks just behind Jackson in walks (11), slugging (.610), hits (25) and extra base hits (10). Armijo's .338 average is second best on the squad as is her .463 on base percentage.
SERIES HISTORY
Oklahoma State leads the series with a 44-24 record against the Red Raiders, winning nine of the last 10 matchups. The Cowgirls are 19-7 against Tech all-time in Stillwater, the last loss coming in April of 2015 when the Red Raiders swept OSU.
Despite the Cowgirls success over the Red Raiders, five of the last seven games have been decided by one run. Since Kenny Gajewski took the helm at Oklahoma State the Cowgirls are 12-4 over the Red Raiders.
