Chiara Horder will enter Tuesday’s final round of the Bruzzy Challenge in a tie for fifth overall
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech had two players ranked among the top-15 individuals Monday when play was halted late in the second round of the Bruzzy Challenge held at the Waterchase Golf Club in Fort Worth.
The Red Raiders had the majority of their lineup complete the two rounds when the horn sounded with Chiara Horder leading the group at 3-under-par overall. Horder, who closed the day in a tie for fifth individually, signed for a 2-under 70 to start the day before following with a 1-under round that placed her five strokes back of first-day leader Gurleen Kaur of Baylor.
Amy Taylor combined to shoot even with two holes remaining in her second round. The stop of play likely wasn't a welcome sign for Taylor, either, as she sank an eagle at the par-5 third and then back-to-back birdies at No. 4 and 5 to move into a tie for 14th overall. She added a pair of pars to follow the two birdies.
As a team, the Red Raiders weren't able to repeat their strong starts as of late as Texas Tech closed the day at 19-over and in 11th place, two back of Oklahoma and Charlotte in ninth and seven behind Tulsa in eighth. Texas and host North Texas are tied for fifth at 5-over, while Iowa State was in seventh at 11-over for the tournament.
Anna Dong was the next-highest performer in the Texas Tech lineup as she closed the day at 10-over with a hole remaining. Gala Dumez was two back of her with a hole remaining as well with Kylee Loewe rounding out the lineup at 17-over between the two rounds. Cecilie Nielsen, meanwhile, was 3-over as an individual, pushing her into a tie for 26th place on the individual leaderboard.
Baylor raced out to the team lead as the Bears were 20-under between the two rounds, 15 strokes better than second place Oklahoma State. TCU and Tulane followed several strokes back of the pair at 3-over and 4-over, respectively.
Play will resume with the completion of the second round at 8 a.m. Tuesday followed by the final 18 holes in an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start. Live scoring will be provided via www.Golfstat.com.
