Texas Tech boasts another strong semester academically

Texas Tech recorded its sixth-highest term GPA in history this spring as student-athletes from across 17 sports combined for a 3.19 GPA
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech Athletics recorded yet another strong semester in the classroom as student-athletes from across all 17 sports notched at least a 3.0 term grade-point average for the 15th-consecutive term.
Texas Tech's 400-plus student-athletes combined for a 3.19 GPA over the spring semester, pushing the department's cumulative GPA to 3.32 heading into the summer term. It marked the fourth-consecutive semester the department has posted at least a 3.3 cumulative GPA as Texas Tech's student-athletes continue to set a new standard for academic success.
"We are proud of our student-athletes for another strong semester in the classroom," Director of Athletics Kirby Hocutt said. "The success we continue to see in the classroom just doesn't happen overnight, either. Our student-athletes are tireless in their efforts academically as is our team in the Marsha Sharp Center. We'd like to congratulate our student-athletes and staff for yet another successful semester."
With its success academically, Texas Tech now boasts 12 athletic programs (of 13 with track and field indoor and outdoor combined as well as cross country) that possess at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA. Of that group, Texas Tech's soccer and women's golf programs lead the way with 3.68 and 3.64 cumulative team GPAs. For women's golf, it was its highest cumulative GPA over the past five-year period as did the softball program with a 3.46 cumulative GPA.
Texas Tech had six different programs record at least a 3.2 term GPA with JoJo Robertson's golf program leading the way this time with a 3.69 GPA. Soccer was second with a 3.65 GPA followed by men's golf at 3.54, volleyball at 3.47, softball and 3.40 and women's tennis at 3.25. For the sports of women's golf and softball, it marked their highest term GPA over a five-year period.
Overall, Texas Tech had 66 percent of its student-athletes, approximately 276 in total, record at least a 3.0 GPA for the semester with 69 of those student-athletes finishing with a perfect 4.0 GPA. Additionally, Texas Tech had 36 student-athletes named to the President's List and 86 student-athletes recognized on the Dean's List.
Texas Tech student-athletes have a dedicated staff at the Marsha Sharp Center who guide each student-athlete to success from the time of enrollment to graduation. The Marsha Sharp Center provides space for private study, computer labs, supplemental instruction classrooms and private conferencing areas for tutoring and mentoring appointments.
