No. 13 MGOLF sweeps match two of Big 12 tournament

The Red Raiders are in second place of their pool in the Big 12 Match Play Tournament after a sweep over Kansas
HOCKLEY, Texas – No. 13 Texas Tech ended the opening day of the Big 12 Match Play tournament on Monday in second place of Pool D, just three points behind Oklahoma State. Â
The Red Raiders kicked off the first match of the tournament against West Virginia and fell, 3-1-1. The sole Red Raider win was thanks to Matthew Comegys who won his match by a score of 2-up. Calum Scott tied with his opponent by winning the 16th hole of his match and tying the final two holes.  Â
After match one the Red Raiders sat in third place of Pool D with 1.5 match points. Â
The Red Raiders adjusted quickly as they would go on to sweep Kansas in the second match of the tournament, 5-0. Â
Jack Wall was able to put away his opponent in a timely manner as he gained a three-hole lead in the first five holes. Wall would go on to beat Kansas' Will King with a score of 4&3. Â
Tyran Snyders jumped out in front of his opponent early in the round but quickly lost the lead 11 holes in. However, Snyders would birdie the last hole of the match to jump out in front once again to win the match 1-up.Â
Both Scott and Comegys would win their matches by a score of 3&2. Both golfers were able to gain a point on the first hole and maintain their lead throughout the match. Â
Ben Gregg was the only Red Raider to be down in today's second session as he lost the second hole. He was not trailing for long because Gregg won the fourth hole, making him even with his opponent. Just two holes later Gregg would take the lead and hold on to it. Gregg won the match with a score of 4&2.Â
The Red Raiders currently sit three points behind Oklahoma State who is leading Pool D. The Red Raiders and West Virginia are tied in total points but the Red Raiders lead the Mountaineers in both match points and hole differential. Kansas is sitting in last place of Pool D with no points on the board.Â

The Red Raiders will face off against the Oklahoma State Cowboys in the final session of Pool Play on Tuesday morning. They will tee off at 7:45 CT starting on holes 11-13.Â
