Aberg catches fire, fires 70 at Arnold Palmer

After going out in 39, Aberg used three birdies and an eagle to finish at -2 for the day
ORLANDO – Overcoming a slow bogey-bogey start, senior Ludvig Aberg fired a bogey-free 31 on the back-nine to finish the opening round of the PGA TOURs Arnold Palmer Invitational at -2 overall, Thursday at Bay Hill Country Club.
Making the turn at +3 overall, Aberg wasted no time on the final nine, recording a birdie on 10 to move to +2 for the day.
After a par on 11, Aberg made it two birdies in three holes when he fired a four on the par-five 12th hole.
Sitting at +1 heading to 14, Aberg made the putt of the day, when he hit a 53-footer for birdie that brough him back to even for the championship.
Looking to close the round under-par, Aberg made his move on the par-five 16th, ripping a 314-yard drive right down the middle. Sitting less than 200 yards from the pin, Aberg knocked his second shot to within 13'10" of the cup.
Aberg sunk the putt to move to -2 for the day.
The Swede closed with back-to-back pars on 17 and 18 to card a second-nine 31. After 18 holes, Aberg sits tied for 23rd.
World No. 1 John Rahm leads the Palmer Invitational at -7 overall after firing an opening round 65. Rahm leads by two shots.
