
Aberg powers Tech at Day One of Calusa Cup

The senior shot an opening round 69 (-3) and is one shot off the lead
NAPLES, Fla. – Senior Ludvig Aberg shot an opening round 69 to sit tied for second as the No. 2 ranked Texas Tech men's golf program sits in solo fifth after 18 holes of the the Calusa Cup.
After winning less than a week ago at the Valspar, Aberg fired yet another strong round, using five birdies and just two bogies to sit one shot off the lead.
In addition to Aberg, Tyran Snyders and Calum Scott recorded a pair of 74s (+2). Snyders used an eagle on the par-five 18th.
Wake Forest shot a combined team score of -7 for the day and enjoys a three-shot lead over No. 3 UNC who is at -4. Ohio State shot even par and is third, followed by No. 5 ASU at +4.
Tech sits a shot clear of No. 1 Vanderbilt who is in sixth. Georgia (+10), Iowa (+22) and Purdue (+24) round out the nine team field.
Ryan Burnett of UNC used back-to-back birdies on 17 and 18 to take the one shot lead over Aberg and the three other players who sit at -3.

The Red Raiders look to make the moving day charge Monday when the return for the second round of the Calusa Cup. Tech will play with ASU and Vandy. The Tech players will tee off between 11:45 a.m. (CT) and 12:41 p.m. (CT).
