Tech goes 2-1-1 on 1st day of B12 Match Play

The Red Raiders sit just one point behind OU and UT for third place after two sessions
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – Powered by three individual victories from freshman Shannon Tan, the Texas Tech women's golf program caught fire late, to close out a 2-1-1 day at the opening day of the inaugural Big 12 Match Play event hosted by the Big 12 at Kierland Golf Club.
The Red Raiders were paced on the day by true freshman Shannon Tan who went 3-0-1 on the afternoon. All three of Tan's victories on the day were by at least four.
Tan started the day with a win over a tidy 5&4 victory over Britta Snyder of No. 12 Baylor. The Red Raider dropped the Baylor match 4-1.
During the other morning session match, Tan squared Mikhela Fortuna of Oklahoma. The halved match proved to be critical as Tech pulled drew with Oklahoma.
Against the Sooners, Tech also received a strong 4&3 victory from freshman Lauren Zaretsky and a one-up victory from Gala Dumez.
In the afternoon, Tech recorded a pair of 3-2 victories over Iowa State and Kansas, powered by a 5UP and 4UP victory from Tan. Other strong afternoon performances against ISU included a 2&1 win by Libby Fleming and a 1UP win by Gala Dumez.
Against KU, Tech clinched the three points on wins by Tan (5UP), Chiara Horder (2&1) and Zaretsky (1UP).
With two head-to-head matches remaining (OSU, TCU), the Red Raiders are in sixth place.
The top four teams in points will advance to Saturday afternoon's Winners Bracket with the bottom four teams advancing to the Consolation Semifinals. The team that finishes with the fewest team points will be eliminated.
Each team is awarded a singular point for an individual match win and one-half point for each match that is halved. Tech will play five head-to-head match against both TCU and OSU tomorrow morning.
