DUBLIN, Ohio – Make it a clean sweep for Texas Tech senior Ludvig Aberg, who was named the 2023 Jack Nicklaus award winner on Tuesday afternoon, as annouced by Nicklaus at his PGA TOUR Event at Muirfield Village Golf Club.
With the PGA TOUR U announced last evening in Scottsdale, the Fred Haskins also being announced earlier this morning at Grayhawk Golf Club and last week's Ben Hogan Award announcement, Aberg has swept all three 'National Player of the Year' awards in golf college in addition to becoming the first player to go directly from college to a full PGA TOUR Card.
By sweeping the Haskins, Hogan and Nicklaus, Aberg becomes just the seventh player in the history of college golf to win all three. He joins John Pak (2021, Florida State), Sahith Theegala (Pepperdine, 2020), Patrick Rodgers (Stanford, 2014), Ryan Moore (UNLV), Bill Haas (Wake Forest) and Hunter Mahan (2003, Oklahoma State) as the only players to accomplish the feat.
Turning in the most memorable season in Texas Tech men's golf history, Aberg won four times in 2022-23, with back-to-back victories at the Big 12 Championships and the Norman Regional. Aberg became the first player in the history of the Big 12 Conference to win back-to-back individual medalist honors and was the only male D-I player in the country to win his conference tournament and regional.
The native of Eslov, Sweden, became just the second player in the Hogan's nearly 35 year history (Jon Rahm, 2015, 16) to repeat, and is the only player in Texas Tech history to win any of the three National Player of the Year awards he has won this season.
After finishing play at NCAAs yesterday, Aberg has earned his full PGA TOUR card for the remainder of the 2023 season as well as the entire 2024 calendar year. As a full TOUR member, Aberg is also eligible to qualify for all events including the full FEDEX CUP Playoff schedule and the 2023 Ryder Cup hosted by Marco Simone Golf and Country Club in Italy later this fall.
Aberg is slated to make his PGA TOUR debut in approximately 10 days, at next week's RBC Canadian Open hosted by St. George's Golf and Country Club.
