Zaretsky sits atop leaderboard at UCF Challenge

ORLANDO, Fla. - The Texas Tech women's golf program opened its first tournament of 2024 on Saturday with the first round of the UCF Challenge at Eagle Creek Golf Club. The Red Raiders recorded a 5-over-par 293 in the first round, placing them tied for 11th place among the field of 18 teams.
A major highlight for Texas Tech was the performance of Lauren Zaretsky, who fired a career-low 8-under-par 64 to lead the Red Raiders and finish tied atop the individual leaderboard at the end of the first round. The sophomore from Toronto, Canada was consistently impressive on Saturday, notching eight birdies, including each of her final two holes. She found the most success on par 4's, where she scored six of her eight birdies. Zaretsky was the only player among the 96 in the field to not record a bogey in round one and her eight birdies ranked second-most among all players in the first round.
The Red Raiders were also aided by a 2-over-par 74 display from Maja Ambroziak, who opened her round in great fashion with a birdie on her first hole. Senior Gala Dumez also recorded a 5-over-par 77 to finish third among her team.
While golf will not be played on Sunday due to anticipated inclement weather, the Red Raiders will look to climb the team leaderboard on Monday and Tuesday during rounds two and three of the UCF Challenge. Both rounds are scheduled for shotgun starts at approximately 7:30 a.m. CT.Â
