Sprints highlight day one of Jarvis Scott Open

LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech track and field sprints crew brought the crowd to its feet to end day one of the Jarvis Scott Open Friday night at the Sports Performance Center.

Fast-forwarding to the men's 60m finals, two Red Raiders in Terrence Jones and Don'Dre Swint led the way with sub-6.50 times. Jones walked away as the winner with a season-best time of 6.47, while Swint posted a time of 6.49 for second. It marked the first time in Swint's career he dipped under the 6.50 mark. Hurdles specialist Antoine Andrews finished fourth with a personal best 6.58. Jones moves to No. 4 all-time in Tech history as Swint moves to No. 6 all-time.

In the 60m hurdles side of things, Caleb Dean walked away the top man with a time of 7.55 with DeVontae Ford in his season-debut setting a new PB three times, en route to a fourth-place finish at 7.70.

Destiny Smith was the lone representative on the women's side as she third with a PB time of 8.19.

In Boston at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational, Juliet Cherubet opened her 3000m season running an 8:57.56 to finish 13th overall but fifth out of all collegiate runner. It's only her second meet of the year as she's only run mile before tonight. Meanwhile, Anastasia Chepkorir posted a time of 9:19.74.
