No. 11 Tech completes round two of NCAA Championships
May 25, 2024 | Men's Golf
CARLSBAD, Calif. — Despite carding a 13-over-par 301 on Saturday at the Omni La Costa North Course — an eight-shot improvement from Friday's opening round — the No. 11 Texas Tech men's golf team sits 34-over after two rounds of the NCAA Championships. The Red Raiders were led in round two by a pair of 74s shot by Calum Scott and Matthew Comegys.
All four of Texas Tech's countable scores on Saturday were improvements for the respective individuals starting with the pair of rounds notched by Scott and Comegys (2-over 74). Tyran Snyders fired a 4-over 76 and Vicente Marzilio shot a 5-over 77, which totaled the Red Raiders' 13-over team round.
Scott is Texas Tech's 36-hole leader at 6-over-par (76-74=150) as he continues to be a steady presence for the Red Raiders — he is the sole Red Raider to have every team round this season counted towards the team score (39 of 39). Meanwhile, Comegys' second-round score was a five-shot improvement from his 7-over-par 79 opening round. The sophomore sits 9-over-par (79-74=153) across the first 36 holes.
Snyders, hindered on Friday by an 11 on the Par 5 sixth hole that amounted to a 10-over 82, owned the greatest improvement from the previous day with a six-shot turnaround with his 4-over 76.
Marzilio bettered his Friday round by three strokes (80-77=157). Marzilio led Texas Tech on the back nine, firing a 1-over-par across his last nine holes, which has proven to be a challenging stretch on the North Course at Omni La Costa. On Friday, 2-over, between holes 12-17 was the top team mark shared by two teams (Arizona/SMU) on a day when the 30-team 18-hole course average was 75.84.
Tech will tee of Sunday's third round off of the No. 1 tee starting at 1:50 p.m. PT. The Red Raiders have the afternoon's final tee time slot, which ranges from 1:50-2:34 p.m. PT.
Following Sunday's third round, the field will be cut to the low 15 teams. Live scoring can be found at Golfstat.com.
