May 08, 2024 | Softball
OKLAHOMA CITY, Oklahoma – The Big 12 announced its 2024 All-Big 12 Team selections Wednesday which featured six Red Raiders. That number is tied for the most players selected to Big 12 Team honors in program history.
Â
Kailey Wyckoff was awarded First Team Big 12 honors while Abbie Orrick, Riley Love and Arriana Villa picked up Second Team Big 12 honors. Freshmen Raegan Jennings and Logan Halleman were named to the All-Big 12 Freshman Team to round out the awards for Texas Tech.
Â
Wyckoff finished the regular season as the team's leader in batting average (.406), hits (56) and on-base percentage (.481). The Sophomore's .406 batting average currently sits as the third-best single season average in program history.
Â
Orrick set career-highs in virtually every offensive category this season including, batting average, runs, hits, triples, homers, RBIs, slugging, on-base and stolen bases while also recording a career-best in fielding percentage.
Â
Love, like Orrick, set career-highs across the board and led the team in home runs (13), RBIs (47) and slugging (.746). The third baseman also finished the season top 10 in the Big 12 in slugging, doubles, RBIs and home runs.
Â
Villa led the team with a career-high 14 doubles which was also good for fourth most in the Big 12. The outfielder also set career highs in batting average, hits, slugging, on-base and walks drawn.
Â
Both Jennings and Halleman made earlier impacts for the Red Raiders. Jennings finished the season fifth on the team in batting average while also driving in 20 runs on 35 hits. Halleman was third on the team in batting average, finishing with a .337 average and led the team with 18 stolen bases which was third most in the Big 12.
Â
Tech had six players featured on All-Big 12 Teams back in the 2018 and 2019 seasons – also the last time Tech was selected for the NCAA Tournament. Only Texas and Oklahoma had more selections than the Red Raiders.
