July 02, 2024 | Softball
LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech softball program announced the signing of 2024 Sun Belt Player of the Year Mihyia Davis on Tuesday.
Â
A Lovelady, Texas native, Davis played two seasons at Louisiana Lafeyette where she immediately made an impact on the field.
Â
During her freshman campaign she was given nine different honors:
She batted .380 in 56 games and racked up 52 stolen bases in her first collegiate season and followed that up with a .419 batting average and 23 stolen bases in 64 games during her sophomore campaign. Those numbers helped her garner Sun Belt Player of the Year honors as well as being named to the All-Sun Belt Conference First Team and the NFCA All-Central Region Second Team in 2024.
Davis also has a great glove in the outfield, making several highlight plays throughout her two seasons with the Ragin' Cajuns.
"I believe Mihyia Davis will be at the top of the list in 2025 when it comes to lead-off hitters around the country," said Gerry Glasco. "She's as good a hitter and defensive center fielder as anyone in the game right now. Mihyia is a tremendous athlete and an electrifying player to watch with her elite speed and base running ability. Her speed coupled with her competitive attitude results in one great defensive play after another. She will quickly become a fan favorite with her play style and All-American abilities."
