July 03, 2024 | Softball
LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech softball program announced the signing of Washington transfer Alana Johnson on Wednesday. Johnson was a standout player for the Huskies as she had a breakout sophomore campaign playing and starting in all 47 games and boasting a .336 batting average.
Â
A Summit, Mississippi native, Johnson comes to Lubbock with the ability to play almost anywhere in the field defensively as she played second base in her freshman season before moving to the outfield last year. She has a strong bat as she led the Huskies in home runs (13), RBIs (40) and total bases (97) last season.
Â
Johnson holds a .301 career average as well as a .611 career slugging percentage thanks to 20 career home runs and 10 career doubles. She was named to the All-Pac 12 Second Team and the NFCA All-Pacific Region Third Team this past season for her performance on the field.
Â
Johnson also excels in the classroom, being named an NFCA All-America Scholar Athlete in 2023 and a College Sports Communicator Academic All-District Team member in 2024.
Â
"Alana is the consummate student-athlete," said Gerry Glasco. "She is incredibly bright and a pre-med major. She is always smiling and brings great energy everywhere she goes. Alana is a great athlete and is excellent in the classroom. She has the ability to become an All-American before she ends her career here at Texas Tech. She will make an immediate impact not only on our team but the Lubbock community."
