
Dmitrichenko, Herendeen named ITA regional winners

LUBBOCK, Texas – The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) announced its regional award winners on Tuesday morning and head coach Adam Herendeen as well as junior Yekaterina Dmitrichenko picked up honors. Herendeen earned his second-straight ITA Texas Region Coach of the Year accolade and Dmitrichenko earned both the ITA Texas Region Player to Watch and ITA Texas Region Most Improved Player awards, both the first of her career.
Herendeen, who is in his third season at the helm of the Lady Raiders, coached the team to a 23-3 record, two Big 12 titles (both since 2017), six top-25 victories, back-to-back 20+ win seasons and the program's 13th straight NCAA appearance. Herendeen has become the winningest coach in his first three seasons, recording 57 wins which is the most since Mickey Bowes's 49 in 1980-83. Herendeen was also named Big 12 Coach of the Year for the first time in his career as he coached two doubles All-Americans in Avelina Sayfetdinova and Mariia Hlahola. Â
This season, Herendeen aided the Lady Raiders to their first top-10 victory since 2018 after downing No. 10-ranked NC State in January. He also helped Texas Tech to a program record 12 conference wins. Coaching the team to a top-15 ranking since February 20, Herendeen and the Lady Raiders hosted the NCAA First and Second Rounds for the sixth time in program history and first time in seven years. The Lady Raiders would go on to advance to the Round of 32 after beating Boston U. Herendeen has aided the team to 23 doubles points and coached four All-Big 12 selections including a first team singles player and a first team doubles duo. Over the season, the Lady Raiders went 77-36 (.681) in dual singles matches and 47-12 in dual doubles matches (.797). Three different Lady Raiders have been ranked in singles and four doubles teams have been ranked at some point this season.
Last season, Dmitrichenko went 9-11 overall in singles and 7-8 in dual singles. In overall doubles, she was 2-5 and went 0-3 in dual doubles. Dmitrichenko now solidified herself as one of the top players in the country in her junior season, after going 24-5 overall and 19-2 in dual matches to lead the team. She was 10-1 at court two and 9-1 at court three in singles, while leading the team with a 4-1 record over ranked opponents. In doubles, she went 20-10 overall and 14-3 in dual doubles, all coming at court two, and was second on the team in dual doubles wins.
In addition, Dmitrichenko went 11-1 in Big 12 singles and 7-2 in Big 12 doubles to be named First Team All-Big 12 in singles and Second Team All-Big 12 in doubles. She also won two Big 12 Player of the Week awards this year. Dmitrichenko was named All-Big 12 and Big 12 POW for the first time in her career this season. She was ranked as high as 96 in singles and 68 in doubles this year and was named the Big 12 Tournament's Most Outstanding Performer. She recorded her best singles win this season over Arizona State's No. 49-ranked Emilija Tverijonaite.
