FANSonly Network No. 7 Sports Site on the Internet
January 5, 1999 CARLSBAD, Calif. - The FANSonly Network (www.FANSonly.com), which includes Texas Tech's official athletic site (www.texastech.com), has been ranked seventh among all sports sites on the Internet. The single largest collegiate sports site on the Internet, FANSonly has increased its reach 71 percent since August, according to Media Metrix, an independent Internet measurement service. FANSonly is the sole top 10 sports site that is not part of a parent media company and is prospering without any major media partnerships. FANSonly is also the only sports site that has increased its audience reach in each of the last four months, according to Media Metrix and the only site to increase its ranking, moving up two places from the previous rankings. The top 10 sports sites in November, according to Media Metrix, were (in order): ESPN.com, Sportsline USA, NFL.com, CNNSI.com, NASCAR.com, WWF.com, FANSonly Network, Foxsports.com, Sportingnews.com and NHL.com. "We have had to develop and maintain a loyal fan base to increase our market size. These numbers illustrate that we have been extremely successful in our efforts," said FANSonly Network CEO Dick Beedon. "By targeting college sports fans, we are reaching a highly favorable, educated, upper-income demographic in record numbers." FANSonly.com is attracting many college sports fans with its $1 million dollar college football bowl contest, school specific trivia contests, and computer-simulated match-ups for a national championship series between NCAA schools. This interactive promotion is an example of the FANSonly Network content that has been successful in increasing user loyalty by allowing fans to interact with college sports in new and unique ways. "We are thrilled with the success of the FANSonly Network," said Texas Tech Assistant Athletic Director Richard Kilwien. "The Internet is such a dynamic medium with the ability to get accurate, up-to-date information into our fans' hands instantly. We are proud to be associated with what we believe is the top Interent sports network. Our partnership with FANSonly has been an integral part of our sports marketing efforts."
