| Steadman Headed to Inauguration Jan. 18, 2001 LUBBOCK, Texas - Natalie Steadman, Tech's assistant athletics director for sports health, has accepted a formal invitation to President-elect George W. Bush's inauguration on Saturday in Washington. "To be able to go to Washington and the inauguration is a once in a lifetime chance," said Steadman. Steadman first became acquainted with Bush when he appointed her to a six-year term on the Texas Advisory Board of Athletic Trainers. Steadman has since been promoted to chairperson (March 2000) of the six-member board, which establishes guidelines for athletic trainers and prepares and conducts examinations for those seeking a state license. Originally from Littlefield, Texas, Steadman began working as a student trainer at Tech in 1986 and then became a full-time athletic trainer in 1992. By March 1996 she was promoted to director of sports medicine and head athletic trainer who made her the first female head trainer in the Big 12. "You try to promote your profession and protect the people that you're treating," said Steadman. Steadman is a member of the National Athletic Trainers Association, the Southwest Athletic Trainers Association, and the American Physical Therapy Association. |
