Feb. 14, 2000 LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech Athletic Department will hold open auditions to fill the public address announcers position for Red Raider football and basketball, as well as Lady Raider basketball. Current public address announcer Gerald Rogers has announced he will retire following the 1999-2000 basketball season. Rogers has been the voice of Red Raider football, basketball and Lady Raider basketball for 31 years. He has called over 700 Texas Tech sporting events. Interested public address announcers should contact Myrna Whitehead in the Texas Tech Athletic Marketing and Promotions Office by Feb. 21 to coordinate an audition. Whitehead may be reached at (806) 742-1195 or via email at myrna.whitehead@ttu.edu. One person, as in the past, may not necessarily fill the three roles. Depending on the amount of quality auditions, the Texas Tech Athletic Department could select more than one announcer for the three sports or specific announcers for specific sports. |
