Big 12 Honors Two Tech Athletes for Community Service
April 7, 2003 LUBBOCK, Texas - The Big 12 Conference celebrated National Student-Athlete Day by honoring 23 of the league's outstanding student-athlete's, among them two Red Raiders. Texas Tech recognized freshman football player Sir Don Lewis and senior volleyball player Stacy Poole for outreach efforts in the local community above and beyond the usual call. "We celebrate all our student-athletes on this commemorative day and salute those who do so many things to assist in their communities," said Dr. Prentice Gautt, Big 12 associate commissioner and liaison for student-athletes and student services. "There are literally hundreds of student-athletes in the Big 12 Conference, and we are grateful for all their hours of community service." Lewis is a red shirt freshman cornerback and a product of Hitchcock High School in Hitchcock, Texas. Poole, a native of Las Cruces, NM, closed out her four-year career for the Red Raider volleyball team this season by totaling 188 kills with a .304 attack percentage. |
