| Student-Athletes Earn Degrees Aug. 12, 2000 LUBBOCK, Texas - The athletic department was well represented at Summer Commencement exercises Saturday at the United Spirit Arena as 10 student-athletes received their Texas Tech University diplomas. Football and track each had three team members to graduate. John DePasquale (Marketing), Paul Erickson (History) and Jonathan Gray (Marketing) represented the football team. Both DePasquale and Erickson will play the 2000 season as graduate students. Desmond Johnson (Family Financial Planning), Kiprupo Samson Nje'tich (International Economics) and Brandon May (Finance) were the members of the track team to finish their undergraduate studies summer term. Also earning their degrees Saturday were women's golfer Alana Soliz (General Studies), women's basketball player Aleah Johnson (Early Childhood Studies), baseball player Chad Reynolds (Exercise Sport Science) and men's tennis player Dustin Hawk (Biology). "We are obviously very proud of these young men and women," athletic director Gerald Myers said. "No matter how much they contribute on the playing fields or courts, the main objective from the time they enter Texas Tech is to earn their degree." |
