Prince, Sawyer Join Athletic Staff
| Prince, Sawyer Join Athletic Staff Sept. 13, 2000 LUBBOCK, Texas - Andrew Prince and Brooke Sawyer have joined the Athletic Student Services Staff as academic counselors. Prince will be responsible for overseeing the academic progress of the football team, while Sawyer will be responsible for monitoring academic eligibility and progress toward graduation for the track and cross- country teams and freshmen football athletes. John Anderson, Associate Athletic Director of Academic and student services, said "I am very excited to have them (Prince and Sawyer) a part of Texas Tech Athletics Department, they bring a lot of diverse experience that will help the athletes at Texas Tech." Prince graduated from Abilene Christian University in 1975. He received his master's degree in higher education with an emphasis in School Administration from ACU in 1980. Aside from his academic achievement, Prince was a professional and college All-American basketball player. He played professional basketball in Europe for eight years and he was inducted into the ACU Sports Hall of Fame in 1993. The native from Victoria, Texas, next moved on to Stephen F. Austin, where he worked as an academic counselor, instructor and as assistant basketball coach for 12 years. In 1997, Sawyer earned her bachelor's degree in kinesiology at the University of Minnesota. Sawyer completed her master's degree at the University of North Texas in 2000, while serving as a graduate assistant for the director of athletic academic services. The job included coordinating the study hall program for nine teams and assisting the Life Skills course. Outside of the athletic office she taught undergraduate courses in kinesiology and health promotion and recreation departments. Sawyer is a member of the National Association of Academic Advisors for Athletics, and the Texas Tech Association for the Advancement of Women in Higher Education. |
