| Holub Joins Red Raider Club Staff Sept. 14, 2000 LUBBOCK, Texas - Former Texas Tech All-American E.J. Holub has been named associate executive director of the Red Raider Club, according to Steve Uryasz, senior associate athletic director and executive director of the Red Raider Club. Holub's responsibilities include fundraising in the Midland and Permian Basin area. "E.J. Holub has been a fixture in Texas Tech athletics for the past 40 years and we are excited to have him as part of our staff," Uryasz said. "He will help us develop in-roads not only with longtime Texas Tech supporters, but new fans as well. He is a vital link to Texas Tech's past and future." A name synonymous with Texas Tech football, Holub was Texas Tech's first All-American, a feat he accomplished in 1959 and 1960. Holub was the No. 1 draft choice of the Dallas Texans, now the Kansas City Chiefs, in 1960. He played 11 seasons as a linebacker and center and was a four-time All-Pro selection. Holub is the only player in history to start in different Superbowl games on opposite sides of the line of scrimmage. Holub earned numerous honors during his career, including being named to the National Football Foundation Hall of Fame, Texas Sports Hall of Fame, Texas Tech Athletic Hall of Honor, the College Football Hall of Fame and the Kansas City Chiefs Hall of Fame. His No. 55 jersey is one of only two Texas Tech jerseys retired. Holub will be on hand to sign autographs Sat., Sept. 16, prior to the Louisiana-Lafayette game from 3-5 p.m. next to the "Red Raider Hummer," located in front of the Frazier Alumni Pavilion. |
