Texas Tech women’s tennis head coach, Adam Herendeen, has announced the hiring of Dani Nasser as assistant coach on August 16, 2022.
In just her second season with the Lady Raiders, and first with her promotion to associate head coach, Nasser helped Tech to a program record 10 conference wins and a fourth-place finish in the Big 12, while also aiding the Lady Raiders their 12th-consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance as well as a second-round berth after sweeping Denver in the first round. The Lady Raiders would go on to make the semifinals of the Big 12 Tournament and finish the season with their highest ranking since 2018 in No. 27. In addition, Texas Tech recorded its seventh 20-plus win season in program history.
Nasser would coach five Big 12 honorees in Metka Komac, Avelina Sayfetdinova, Mariya Polishchuk, Andreea Lila and Cristina Tiglea. The duo of Polishchuk/Tiglea were named Big 12 Position Champions at Court Two Doubles, Lila was named the Big 12 Position Champion and Court Six Singles, Tiglea earned All-Big 12 First Team Singles and the duo of Komac/Sayfetdinova were Unanimous All-Big 12 First Team Doubles as well as the Big 12 Position Champions at Court One Doubles with a program record 20 wins at the spot. Nasser coached the first ITA Doubles All-Americans in program history after Komac and Sayfetdinova, who closed out the season at No. 8 nationally, made it the furthest in school history at the NCAA Doubles Championships with a quarterfinals run. In addition, Tiglea would also qualify for the NCAA Singles Championships.
In her first season as assistant coach of the Lady Raiders, Nasser aided the team to 14 wins with five of those coming against ranked opponents. Picking up four conference victories, the Lady Raiders were able to earn a No. 5 seed into the Big 12 Tournament. Nasser coached three All-Conference members as both Olivia Peet and Avelina Sayfetdinova picked up All-Big 12 Second Team Singles honors, while the duo of Sayfetdinova and Metka Komac were not only All-Big 12 Second Team Doubles selections but were also named the Big 12 Position Champions at the No. 1 doubles spot with a 6-1 record in league play. Sayfetdinova and Komac were also named as alternates for the NCAA Doubles Championships and finished the season ranked 30th in the nation.
During the fall, Nasser helped coach the doubles pairing of Komac and Cristina Tiglea to a runner-up finish at the ITA Texas Regionals and a doubles spot at the ITA National Fall Championships, the first appearance for a Lady Raider pair since 2017. Nasser helped lead the Lady Raiders to their 11th consecutive NCAA Tournament and also coached five ITA Scholar-Athletes in her first season.
Nasser comes to Lubbock after serving as the assistant coach for the women’s tennis team at Gonzaga this past season. There, she coached an All-WCC Honorable Mention singles player, two All-Academic WCC Team members and eight ITA Scholar-Athletes.
Prior to her stint at Gonzaga, Nasser was the volunteer assistant coach for the Notre Dame women’s tennis team from 2019-21, helping lead the Irish to 22 wins over the course of two seasons and coaching two doubles teams in the NCAA Individual Tournament.
Nasser was a student-athlete at the University of Oregon from 2015-19. While at Oregon, she collected an impressive 63 career singles victories, which is good for a top-10 spot among Oregon’s all-time wins leaders.
A two-time ITA Scholar-Athlete (2016-17) and Pac-12 All-Academic First Team member (2017-18), Nasser also aided the Ducks to a couple of NCAA Tournaments during her time at Oregon.
A native of Tampa, Fla., Nasser graduated from the University of Oregon in 2019 with a degree in Business Administration.
