LUBBOCK, Texas - Preparations for Texas Tech?s Big 12 Conference game against Colorado made the turn toward the home stretch Wednesday with a two-hour practice in shoulder pads and helmets.
?It was nothing to write home about, but it was OK for a Wednesday,? head coach Spike Dykes said. ?It was a hot day, but we looked all right.?
The Red Raiders worked on implementing and polishing game plans and schemes for Colorado. There was also work on punt coverage and the remainder of the kicking game to close the afternoon session at Jones Stadium.
?Everybody is working hard, but there wasn?t one player who particularly sparkled,? Dykes said. ?Today was just a good, old fashioned Wednesday work day. We?re still working hard to get better.?
Adding to an already long injury list, backup quarterback Kliff Kingsbury of New Braunfels, Texas will be out with a fractured left thumb. Freshman B.J. Symons of Houston-Cypress Creek will move into the backup spot behind starter Rob Peters.
Texas Tech, 2-3 overall and 1-1 in conference play, will polish the game plan Thursday before ending the week with a walk-through type practice Friday. Colorado (3-2, 2-0) will also work out at Jones Stadium Friday. Both practices are closed.
Kickoff for Saturday?s Homecoming game is set for 2:35 p.m. ABC Sports will televise the game on a regional basis, marking Texas Tech?s third television appearance this season.
