Quotes from Alicia Thompson:
"First of all I am really excited to get the opportunity to go to the WNBA. I have waited for this moment all my life. It is something I have always wanted to do and it has always been in my future plans. To be able to do this after my senior years after four great years in college I am really looking forward to what is ahead."
"I looked at both leagues and weighed the pros and cons of each one and the WNBA was the one that met my satisfaction. (on the pros of playing in the WNBA)Being able to play in the summer. I will come back and finish school in the fall. Being able to work on my major and get a job after playing in the summer season. I watched some last summer during their first season and I thought they did really well. As far as attendance and everything I was really pleased with how excited everybody was to come out and watch the women play. I am satisfied to play for anyone. I would like to play for Houston, just to be close to home and to stay in the state of Texas. But that is pretty much out of the question, so I will be happy to play for any team."
(On Coach Sharp) " She has helped me during this whole process and really done a lot of things for me to get ready for this next season, just as far as what I should and shouldn't do and helped in a lot of decisons, all of the coaches have."
Marsha Sharp - "We are really proud for her and of her. I just want to congratulate her first of all. I think it is a tremendous honor to be included in this group at this level. I honestly think she is joining one of the best sport organizations in this world. I am really pleased she is going to have an opportunity to do that. She has earned it. She has really proven, particularly in the last year, that she is one of the elite players in the country. There are a lot of people that have potential but alicia took that potrwential and made it something really special. It is a great day for our program. We are really excited. Anytime you have one that goes to the next level that is a great honor and we are realy pleased for her and us both."
