Angie Braziel Garners Another All-America Honor

LUBBOCK, Texas - Senior Lady Raider Angie Braziel collected her third All-America honor of the season as the Women's Basketball Journal announced its All-America team selections on Tuesday. Braziel was named to the publication's All-America second team.
The following is the release by WBJ announcing its selections.
The question isn't whether or not Chamique Holdsclaw was the finest player in the country during the 1998-99 season, the question is how the Tennessee superstar rates among the all-time greats in the game. Holdsclaw was magnificent last year, and she has been even better as a senior. If she leads the Lady Vols to an unprecedented fourth straight NCAA title, it would be extremely difficult to argue against her credentials.
Entering the 1999 NCAA Tournament, Holdsclaw was averaging 20.1 points and 8.8 rebounds for her career. The most important measuring sticks, however, are Tennessee's 128-16 record and three national titles over the course of Holdsclaw's career. According to one noted observer, Holdsclaw has already proven her point. "Chamique's impact on the game will long be remembered," said Lady Vol coach Pat Summitt. "She has certainly earned her place in history here at Tennessee, and on the national scale I think she is on top of the list of players, to date, when you look at their impact on the game." Holdsclaw leads a 1999 WBJ All-America unit that includes 20 athletes who were chosen by position. WBJ's other major awards went to UNLV freshman Linda Froehlich, who was ranked seventh nationally in scoring this year, and Colorado State head coach Tom Collen, who guided the Rams into the Top 10 in just his second season in Fort Collins. The Defensive Player of the Year Award, which was released last week, went to Tennessee's Semeka Randall.
