Bears win on Preston Underdown home run in bottom of ninth to sweep Texas Tech
Waco, Texas -- Baylor's Preston Underdown hit a home run in the ninth inning to give Baylor a 9-8 victory Sunday against Texas Tech at Ferrell Field. The victory completed a three-game sweep of Texas Tech, the first time Texas Tech has been swept since 1996 in a series at Texas.
Texas Tech dropped to 24-8 overall and 7-4 in the Big 12 while Baylor improved to 24-6 overall and 10-2 in Big 12 play.
With two outs and the score tied in the bottom of the ninth, Underdown drove a 1-0 pitch over the left field fence for the victory. It was the second consecutive game in a row that Texas Tech was defeated on a game winning home run and third straight game decided by one run.
Texas Tech jumped on top early in the first inning with four runs, all coming on a Josh Bard grand slam off Baylor starter Josh Scott. Baylor stormed back with runs in the first and second innings. Marco Cunningham put Tech up 6-2 with a two-RBI home run in the fourth inning, his first home run in 113 at-bats and 126 plate appearances.
Baylor answered with four runs of its own in the fourth inning on RBI singles from Mark Cogdill, Eric Nelson and Matt Williams to even the score at 6-6.
Tech grabbed the lead back at 7-6 with a run in the sixth when Cunningham drove home Lance Woodcock. Baylor's Jason Jennings put Baylor back on top with a two-RBI home run.
That set the stage for Texas Tech to tie the game at 8-8 in the top of the ninth inning when Josh Bard hit his second home run of the day, a 0-0 pitch sent over the left field wall. Cade Allison, who took the loss got two quick outs for Texas Tech in the bottom of the ninth but Underdown sent his 1-0 pitch over the fence for the win.
Bard led Tech with a 2-5 performance with two homers, a grand slam and five RBI on the day. Cunningham went 3-4 with three RBI, a walk and two runs and Lance Woodcock collected two htis on the afternoon.
Allison (3-1) picked up the loss after allowing two hits and a run in 2 2/3 innings. Baylor reliever Mark Outlaw (4-1) earned the win.

BAYLOR DEFEATS TEXAS TECH ON 10TH INNING HOME RUN
Bubela home run lifts Bears over Red Raiders
Waco, Texas -- A Jaime Bubela 10th inning home run lifted Baylor over Texas Tech 6-5 at Ferrell Field Saturday. Bubela hit a 3-1 pitch out of the park for his second homer of the season in the bottom of the 10th inning for the win.
Baylor reliever Mark Outlaw got the victory after pitching the 10th inning. Starter Chad Hawkins went 9.0 innings, allowing nine hits, five runs and two walks. He struck out eight Tech batters. Texas Tech's Brandon Roberson earned the loss after pitching the final 6 2/3 innings and allowing six hits, two runs (one earned) and striking out seven batters. He fell to 1-2 on the season.
Josh Bard led Texas Tech with a 2-5, RBI performance while Ryan Ruiz went 2-4 with two runs and Jon Weber went 1-2 with a run and his ninth home run of the season.

BAYLOR DEFEATS TEXAS TECH 2-1 IN PITCHERS DUAL
Red Raiders held to season-low three hits as Bears break 10-game winning streak
WACO, Texas-- Baylor's Jason Jennings threw a three-hit complete game as he led No. 18 Baylor to a 2-1 victory Friday against No. 10 Texas Tech at Ferrell Field. Texas Tech fell to 24-6 overall and 7-2 in the Big 12 while Baylor improved to 8-2 in the Big 12 and 22-6 overall.
Baylor's victory snapped Texas Tech's 10-game winning streak. The Bears held Texas Tech to a season-low three hits.
Texas Tech's Shane Wright (6-2) earned the loss after pitching a six-hitter. Wright pitched his fifth complete game on the season in 8.0 innings. He allowed six hits, two runs (one earned run), one walk and struck out seven batters.
Baylor got on the board with the first pitch of the bottom of the first inning when Jaime Bubela hit a solo home run to centerfield. It was his first home run of the season. The Bears scored again in the seventh inning when Jason Jennings singled and moved to second on a Preston Underdown walk. After a Jace Brewer flyout, Jennings scored from second when an errant cutoff throw rolled into the Tech dugout, advancing both runners an extra base.
Texas Tech had its chances as it put two runners on base in the eighth inning. Lance Woodcock took a bases-on-balls and Jason Huth replaced Woodcock after a fielders' choice and Marco Cunningham reached base on an infield error. Huth crossed home plate and Cunningham advanced to third when Baylor catcher Bryan Loeb's throw bounced pass the Bear first baseman as he attempted to pick off Cunningham. Tech could not muster another run as Jennings struck out Ryan Ruiz and Miles Durham to end the inning. He got three straight ground balls in the ninth to complete the victory.
Jennings' victory moved him to 6-0. He went the full nine innings, allowed three hits and one run (unearned), two walks and struck out nine batters.
Jon Weber and Jason Huth (two hits) collected the hits for Texas Tech.
