The Stage is Set for a Big 12 Conference Showdown...
The Big 12 conference lead is up for grabs as the sixth-ranked Texas Tech Lady Raiders face #14 Iowa State Wednesday at the Lubbock Municipal Coliseum. Both enter the contest undefeated in league play. The Cyclones have won nine straight games while Tech looks to extend its winning streak to 16 games. Texas Tech is unbeaten at home while Iowa State is 4-0 on the road. It is exactly one year to the day that Iowa State defeated Texas Tech, 82-73, in Ames (Jan. 20, 1998).

Lady Raider Head Coach Marsha Sharp
One of the most respected and well-known coaches in Texas Tech history, head coach Marsha Sharp is 392-126 (.757) in her 17th year at the helm of the Lady Raiders. The 1998 Big 12 Coach of the Year, she has led the Lady Raiders to eight NCAA Tournament appearances, seven consecutive and five NCAA Sweet 16 appearances in six years, including the NCAA National Championship in 1993. While in the SWC, Coach Sharp and the Lady Raiders never finished below third, they won or shared the last five championships, and they captured three Post Season Classic titles. Sharp captured her 350th career victory during the 1997 NCAA Tournament when on March 16 Tech defeated Montana, 47-45, in Palo Alto, Calif. A 1974 graduate of Wayland Baptist University, Sharp was named National Coach of the Year in 1993 and 1994. She also reaped SWC Coach of the Year honors seven times, five consecutively. Sharp needs eight victories to eclipse the 400 career-win mark.

Wrap-Up of the TTU-Oklahoma State Game
Angie Braziel scored 26 points and grabbed five rebounds to lead No. 6 Texas Tech to a 79-68 victory over Oklahoma State on Saturday.
Texas Tech scored 14 straight points to open the game, thanks to five Oklahoma State turnovers in the Cowgirls' first six possessions. The Red Raiders (16-1, 5-0 Big 12) increased their lead to 31-13 with 9:35 to go in the first half. But Oklahoma State went on a 19-4 run to cut it to 35-32 at the half.
Tech went on a 16-3 run early in the second half to go up by 15. OSU didn't get closer than eight points in the last six minutes of the game.
Braziel hit 11 of 18 shots from the floor as the Red Raiders shot 49 percent. Texas Tech also hit eight of 17 3-point shots and was 15-of-21 from the free-throw line.
Rene Hanebutt added 19 for Texas Tech and Julie Lake had 15, as the Red Raiders shot 56 percent in the second half, including four-of-seven three-pointers after the break.
Jennifer Crow led Oklahoma State (10-5, 2-3) with 24 points while Nikki Harmon added 11 points and six rebounds.
The Cowgirls shot 50 percent from the field, hitting 24 of 48 shots, and outrebounded Texas 32-26. But they committed 26 turnovers. Texas Tech committed 16 turnovers.
About Iowa State
Head coach Bill Fennelly is in his fourth season at the helm of the Cyclones. Iowa State's lone loss came at the hands of nationally-ranked Louisiana Tech, 89-60, on Dec. 4. Last year, ISU posted an overall record of 25-8 and reached the second round of the 1998 NCAA Mideast Regional. Fennelly has used the same relatively young starting lineup the entire season with one freshman, two sophomores and two juniors getting the call at the start of the game.
The Cyclones are led by sophomore guard Megan Taylor who scores an average of 17.8 points per game. She also tops the squad in rebounds with 8.4 per contest. Taylor is seventh in the league in scoring and fifth in rebounds. Reserve forward Desiree Francis is fourth in the Big 12 Conference in field goal per., shooting 54.5% from the floor. Junior guard Stacy Frese leads the league in three-point field goal per., hitting 50.9% of her attempts.
As a team, Iowa State leads the conference in field goal per., field goal per. defense, rebounding, rebound margin, and three-point field goals made.
The Series Record...
The young history between Texas Tech and Iowa State finds the series knotted at 1-1. The Lady Raiders dropped an 82-73 decision to the Cyclones last season but defeated ISU, 64-58, in Lubbock on Jan. 25, 1997.
Climbing up the Ladder...
After opening the 1998-99 season with a preseason ranking of #12, the Lady Raiders have steadily climbed up in the polls since November. In the weeks following, Texas Tech spent time at #14, #15, #12, #10, #8, #7 and currently holds the sixth position in the Associated Press and seventh in the USA Today/ESPN poll for the week of Jan. 18.
Home Sweet Home ...
The Lubbock Municipal Coliseum is in its final full season as the home of Lady Raider basketball.
The Lady Raiders are currently scheduled to begin action in the United Spirit Arena in fall,1999. Until then, Texas Tech can count on the majestic old building to provide the Lady Raiders with a decisive home court advantage.
The Lady Raiders have currently won 108 of their last 115 games in the friendly confines, a winning per. of .939. The Lady Raiders have managed a 181-29 mark under head coach Marsha Sharp and a 112-10 record in the last eight seasons in the Coliseum.
A Look Ahead ...
Tech prepares for a televised game against the Kansas Jayhawks on Saturday, Jan. 20 in Lawrence. Tip-off is set for 3:00 p.m. CT., and will be seen on channel 20 (Lubbock cable). The Lady Raiders get back on the road to begin the second half of the conference season with a game against Oklahoma in Norman on Wednesday, Jan. 27. Game time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.

Texas Tech Tidbits...
The Lady Raiders have won 15 consecutive games and 28 of its last 30 games, dating back to Feb. 4, 1998. The Lady Raiders are off to their best start ever, surpassing a 14-1 start by the 1993-94 Lady Raider squad. Techs longest winning streak is 24 games which took place during the 1992-93 season and the 1983-84 season.
Head coach Marsha Sharp needs eight victories to eclipse the 400-career win mark. During her previous 16 years as head coach at Tech, Sharp has averaged 23.5 wins per season.
Texas Tech had four players score in double figures against Oklahoma State Saturday night. It was the eighth time this season that at least four Lady Raiders collected double figure marks.
Tech tied a season-high for three-point field goals made against the Cowgirls with eight. The Lady Raiders collected a season-low 26 rebounds against OSU.
With senior post Angie Braziel jumping the opening tip, Texas Tech has lost the opening tip only twice this season.
Wednesdays contest against #14 Iowa State marks only the second game of the season that Texas Tech has faced a nationally-ranked team. Tech lost to #15 Old Dominion, 85-64, on Nov. 21.
Texas Tech has won 18 consecutive Big 12 Conference games.
Senior guard Rene Hanebutt moved into second on Tech's all-time career list for three-point field goals made during the A&M game. She also holds the second spot for three-point field goal attempts with 543 (and counting). The Bowie, Texas, native needs to connect on seven more free throws to move into seventh on Tech's all-time career list for free throws made.
