LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech athletic director Gerald Myers will be presented with a check for $100,000 on behalf of First USA Bank prior to Texas Tech's baseball game Friday evening (7 p.m.) at Dan Law Field. The monetary gift is part of a five-year deal between Texas Tech and First USA Bank involving athletic facilities.
The Texas Tech Ex-Students Association began its partnership with First USA Bank in the fall of 1990. It was then that the Red Raider MasterCard was initiated, an affinity credit card designed to provide financial assistance for academic scholarships, alumni programming and support for the athletic department.
Prior to this latest $100,000 contribution, First USA assisted with improvements to Texas Tech's track facility. A $250,000 gift in 1995 enabled the athletic department to purchase a state-of-the-art scoreboard that was installed prior to the final Southwest Conference track championships hosted by Texas Tech.
According to Ted Polett, account representative for the Red Raider Card program, First USA has a long history of support for Texas Tech."We're proud to have been able to partner with Texas Tech for quite some time," Polett said. "We've had an excellent relationship with the Ex-Students Association for some time, and are glad we're able to assist the athletic department as well."
The Red Raider Mastercard is offered in three designs featuring popular university traditions - the Administration Building Bell Tower, the Carol of Lights and the Masked Rider. For more information on the Red Raider Card, call the Texas Tech Ex-Students Association office at (806) 742-3641.
