LUBBOCK, Texas - Each week, texastech.com and goladyraiders.com will ask five questions of a Lady Raider basketball player or staff member. We begin this feature with a brief conversation with Lady Raider Assistant Coach Linden Weese. A cornerstone in Texas Tech's success, Coach Weese is in his 17th season at Texas Tech. He's been around for it all and wouldn't trade his job for the world.
Q: What makes Texas Tech women's basketball special?
A: Two things - Marsha Sharp and the fan support. Both are the best there is in the land.
Q: What is your most favorite road trip over the course of your years here at Texas Tech?
A: It has to be the Hawaii trip we took this past December. We were able to have our fans join us, the kids had a great time, and we won three games giving us the tournament title.
Q: What do you attribute Tech's success this season to?
A: This is the closest-knit team we've ever had. The team has really bought into Coach Sharp and because of that, they've been extremely successful.
Q: What is the most memorable game for you while at Tech?
A: There are three games: the first time we beat Wayland Baptist - it was a baby-step and we had to win in order to recruit the better kids in the area; next, the game we beat Texas at SMU for the first time at the Southwest Conference tournament; and finally, winning the national championship game. Each of these games led to the other.
Q: What are your thoughts on leaving the Lubbock Municipal Coliseum and moving into the United Spirit Arena next season?
A: I'll miss the coliseum. There were so many great moments. Just to see some kids have some fantastic experiences there. I hope we can put ourselves in the same situation where we can sell out the United Spirit Arena.
