Huskers and Tigers Coming To Town

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech women's tennis team will a host a pair of Big 12 Conference matches this weekend at the Athletic Training Center. The Red Raiders will play Nebraska on Saturday, February 27 at 10:00 am and Missouri on Sunday, February 28 at 9:00 am. Admission to all matches is free.
The 66th-ranked nationally Cornhuskers are coming off 9-0 defeat of Centenary on Wednesday, improving their record to 5-2 overall and 0-1 in the Big 12. Nebraska is led by #1 singles player Sandra Noetzel who is ranked 67th nationally in the latest ITA rankings. Also, Katarina Balan and Ndali Ijomah both sport 5-2 overall singles records. The top doubles team is Danica Hardy and Balan who have a 5-2 mark.
Missouri is 1-2 overall (0-0 in Big 12). Before playing Tech on Sunday, the Tigers have Southwest Texas State on Feb. 26 and Baylor on Feb. 27. Missouri brings a young squad to Lubbock, featuring four freshman, one sophomore and two juniors. The Tigers beat Northern Iowa in the season opener but then dropped consecutive decisions to St. Louis and Indiana State.
Texas Tech, 3-5 overall (1-2 in Big 12), is led by sophomore Zana Zlebnik who is on a four-match winning streak. Her overall record is 5-3. Sophomore Alenka Ovin also owns a 5-3 record. At #6 singles is freshman Noel Ruiz who has been playing well of late. Since moving to the #6 slot, she has posted a 3-1 record (4-4 overall). Ruiz has also teamed with Misty Meyer at #3 doubles, going 2-1. The two wins were the first by a #3 doubles team this season after losing five straight contests. Tech's winningest duo is the team of Amanda Earhart and Ana Serrot, who are 6-2 at #2 doubles.
