Josh Bard Retains USA Baseball Roster Spot

TUCSON, Ariz. - USA Baseball officials announced the 22-man travel roster for the 1998 USA Baseball National Team on July 11. Texas Tech sophomore catcher Josh Bard made the final list but junior pitcher Shane Wright was released from the team.
Bard, who is in his third season with USA Baseball is currently hitting .345 over 28 games and 21 starts. His is 30-87 with 18 runs scored, eight doubles, one home run and 14 RBI. He has not made a single error and has 187 putouts and 14 assists. Wright, a junior righthander from Topeka, Kansas, finished his USA Baseball season with a 5.92 earned run average. The 1998 Texas Tech All America was 1-1 in nine appearances and 24.1 innings pitched. He allowed 35 hits, 16 runs (all earned), walked three batters and struck out nine.
The USA Baseball National team began its competition on June 6 and has thus far played 31 international games in preparation for the International Baseball Association's XXXIII World Championship in Italy. Next up for USA Baseball is a three-game series against Canada from July 15-17 in Trenton, NJ and Norwich and New Haven, Conn.
