TAMPA, Fla. -
Texas Tech senior Rene Hanebutt was eliminated in the first round Thursday of the College Slam Dunk & 3-Point Championships in Tampa, Fla.
Hanebutt was among eight competitors in the women's 3-point shooting contest. The made-for-television event also included slam dunk and 3-point contests for men and was held in the Ice Palace in conjunction with the NCAA men's Final Four.
Each competitor in the 3-point contest shot 25 balls from beyond the arc in a 60-second period. Each basket was worth one point, except for five bonus balls worth two points apiece.
Hanebutt, the Lady Raiders' career leader in 3-pointers made and attempted, scored 16 points in the first round. The cutoff to advance was 18.
Hanebutt was shooting against Clemson's Amy Geren, who won the contest. Geren scored 18 points in the first round, won a shootout for fourth place to advance, scored 15 in the semifinals and 21 in the final. Kelly DeLong from Western Michigan was the other finalist, scoring 15 points in the last round.
