Tech Begins Three-Game Road Swing Saturday Against Old Dominion The 12th-ranked Lady Raiders tackle their first top-25 team of the season with a Saturday afternoon contest against #15 Old Dominion in Norfolk, Va., to begin a three-game road trip. Tech plays SMU Monday evening at 8:00 p.m. in Dallas. This game will be televised on FOX Sports Southwest. After two days back in Lubbock, the Lady Raiders head west to face Stanford Friday, Nov. 27. Game time is 9:30 p.m. CT. Tech is 11-12 in road openers, 9-7 under Marsha Sharp. The last time Texas Tech lost a its first road game of the season was Nov. 25, 1994 as the Lady Raiders lost to Stanford, 79-60, in Stanford.

Lady Raider Head Coach Marsha Sharp
One of the most respected and well-known coaches in Texas Tech history,
head coach Marsha Sharp is 376-125 in her 17th year at the helm of the Lady
Raiders. The 1998 Big 12 Coach of the Year, she has led the Lady Raiders to
eight NCAA Tournament appearances, seven consecutive and five NCAA Sweet 16
appearances in six years, including the NCAA National Championship in 1993.
While in the SWC, Coach Sharp and the Lady Raiders never finished below
third, they won or shared the last five championships, and they captured
three Post Season Classic titles. Sharp captured her 350th career victory
during the 1997 NCAA Tournament when on March 16 Tech defeated Montana
47-45 in Palo Alto, Calif.
A 1974 graduate of Wayland Baptist University, Sharp was named National Coach of the Year in 1993 and 1994. She also reaped SWC Coach of the Year honors seven times, five consecutively. Sharp needs 24 victories to eclipse the 400 career-win mark.
Watching the Lady Raiders
For the sixth consecutive season, the Lady Raiders have drawn more than
7,000 fans to their home games. In their 14 home games last season, Tech
recorded an average of 7,946 spectators. This mark tops the 7,936 the Lady
Raiders drew in their 16 games during the 1995-96 season. Techs largest
home crowd of the 1997-98 season occurred during the Big 12/PAC 10
Challenge, when 8,266 fans crowded the Coliseum to watch the action
Winning at home in conference play
The Lady Raiders have won 15 straight conference games in the Lubbock
Municipal Coliseum. The last loss Tech suffered at home was to Oklahoma
State on Jan. 8, 1997. Prior to that loss, Tech had won 26 straight
conference match-ups in "The Bubble."
For the Senior record
The 1999 Lady Raider senior class (Angie Braziel, Cara Gibbs, Rene
Hanebutt, and Julie Lake) have been at Tech for a total of 74 victories
and19 losses. They have shared in two conference championships, one
Conference Tournament title, and three consecutive trips to the NCAA
Tournament.
Home sweet home one more time
The Lubbock Municipal Coliseum is entering its final full season as
the home of Lady Raider basketball. The Lady Raiders are
currently scheduled to begin action in the United Spirit Arena in
fall,1999. Until then Texas Tech can count on the majestic old building to
provide the Lady Raiders with a decisive home court advantage.
The Lady Raiders have currently won 102 of their last 109 games in the friendly confines, a winning percentage of .936. The Lady Raiders have managed a 175-29 mark under head coach Marsha Sharp and a 106-10 record in the last seven seasons in the Coliseum.
Braziel Named as a Preseason Naismith Candidate
Senior post Angie Braziel was named as a 1998-99 preseason Naismith
Candidate by the Atlanta Tipoff Club. Lynn Pride of Kansas is the other
Big 12 representative on the candidate listing. The Naismith Awards
program, now in its 31st year, honors the outstanding college basketball
players in the United States. The awards program was founded by the
Atlanta Tipoff Club, an organization dedicated to recognizing the
achievements of student-athletes in basketball.
Coaches vs. Cancer
Head coach Marsha Sharp is teaming up with the American Cancer Society and
is a part of the Coaches vs. Cancer program.. Last season, Sharp and the
Lady Raiders raised $45,969.65, ranking 12th among the collegiate
basketball coaches involved in the program.
A Look Ahead ...
Texas Tech continues its three-game road trip as the Lady Raiders go to
Dallas to meet state-rival SMU Monday night. Tip-off is slated for 8:00
p.m. CT. This game will be televised on FOX Sports Southwest. On
Saturday, Nov. 27, the Lady Raiders travel west to face Stanford beginning
at 9:30 p.m. CT.

About Old Dominion University
The Lady Monarchs come into Saturday's game ranked 15th in the nation. Last season, ODU reached the NCAA Sweet Sixteen and closed out its year with a 29-3 record along with a #2 national ranking. The Lady Monarchs captured the Colonial Athletic Association chamnpionship. Head coach Wendy Larry is in her 12th year at ODU. The Lady Monarchs return nine letterwinners from last year's squad, including three starters.
The Series
Saturday's game marks the third meeting between these two national powerhouses. The series is tied, 1-1., The last time Tech and ODU met took place on New Year's Day of 1998 as the Lady Monarchs shot 50 percent from the floor to defeat Texas Tech in Lubbock, 74-71. Angie Braziel scored a game-high 27 points for the Lady Raiders as Aubrey Eblin tallied 19 points for ODU.
Texas Tech Tidbits...
In its two exhibition games, the Lady Raiders combined for 258 points, including a program-high 131 points against the Houston Jaguars on Dec. 4. It was the most points scored since the Lady Raiders collected 125 points against Central State Oklahoma on 1/18/80. It was also the most points scored in an exhibition game - the previous high was 94 points against Lithuania on 11/16/97.
Tech holds current winning streaks against 1998-99 opponents TCU (35 games), Baylor (32 games), SMU (22 games), possible opponent Rice (15 games) and Texas-San Antonio (7 games).
Head coach Marsha Sharp needs 23 wins to eclipse the 400-career win mark. She has averaged 23.5 wins per season during the past 16 years at Texas Tech.
First-time opponents for the Lady Raiders this season includes James Madison, Loyola Marymount and Florida A&M (possible tournament opponent).
