Tech Opens Big 12 Conference Play at Baylor
The eighth-ranked Lady Raiders open 1999 with a conference road opener against Baylor. Tech enters the contest riding a 10-game winning streak while the Bears have won their last five games.
Under head coach Marsha Sharp, Texas Tech holds a 10-6 conference-opener record, including winning its last eight openers. Tech's most recent loss of a conference opener took place on Jan. 2, 1990 at Texas.

Lady Raider Head Coach Marsha Sharp
One of the most respected and well-known coaches in Texas Tech history, head coach Marsha Sharp is 387-126 (.754) in her 17th year at the helm of the Lady Raiders. The 1998 Big 12 Coach of the Year, she has led the Lady Raiders to eight NCAA Tournament appearances, seven consecutive and five NCAA Sweet 16 appearances in six years, including the NCAA National Championship in 1993. While in the SWC, Coach Sharp and the Lady Raiders never finished below third, they won or shared the last five championships, and they captured three Post Season Classic titles.
Sharp captured her 350th career victory during the 1997 NCAA Tournament when on March 16 Tech defeated Montana, 47-45, in Palo Alto, Calif.
A 1974 graduate of Wayland Baptist University, Sharp was named National Coach of the Year in 1993 and 1994. She also reaped SWC Coach of the Year honors seven times, five consecutively. Sharp needs 13 victories to eclipse the 400 career-win mark.

Wrap-Up of the TTU-New Mexico Game
Angie Braziel scored 23 points, leading No. 10 Texas Tech to an 87-46 victory Tuesday night over New Mexico. Braziel had 16 points, 11 rebounds and four blocks in the 1st half alone. She ended with 13 rebounds and six blocks for the Lady Raiders (11-1), who won their 10th straight.
Rene Hanebutt added 20 points, Katrisa O'Neal 14 and Keitha Dickerson 11. Katie Kern scored eights points for New Mexico (8-3),which had a four-game winning streak snapped.
New Mexico, which shot 28 percent from the field in the first half and finished at 32 percent for the game, was overmatched from the start, falling behind 15-4 in the first five minutes.
Texas Tech held the Lobos scoreless during another four-minute span and pushed the lead to 26-6 with 11 minutes remaining in the half. The Lady Raiders added an 11-0 run, including five points from Dickerson, to build a 37-11 advantage at the 7:20 mark. Tech led 48-22 at halftime.
Braziel scored the first six points of the 2nd half for the Lady Raiders, winners of 23 of their last 25 games. Hanebutt hit her fourth 3-pointer as Texas Tech inflated its cushion to 54-25 with 17 minutes left to play in the game.
About Baylor
Under the direction of fifth-year head coach Sonja Hogg, the Baylor Bears come into Saturday's game with an 8-3 record, including a five-game winning streak. The Bears' losses came at the hands of Florida, Arkansas, and Southwest Missouri State.
Using a senior-laced starting line-up, three Bear players average in double figures. Senior guard Lara Webb tops the squad with 16.9 points while senior post Kacy Moffitt adds 16.8 points per game. Moffitt leads Baylor in rebounding, grabbing 6.2 boards per contest.
As a team, Baylor shoots 48% from the floor, but hits 30% from behind the three-point arc. The Bears score 79.3 points per game and give up 65.5 opponent points per game. Baylor outrebounds its opponents (+4.3), but turn the ball over nearly 19 times per contest.
The Series Record...
Texas Tech holds a substantial 35-8 record over the Bears, including a current 32-game winning streak against Baylor. The last time Texas Tech lost to Baylor took place on March 11, 1983, during Marsha Sharp's first year as head coach. The Bears defeated the Lady Raiders, 62-56, in the first round of the Southwest Conference Tournament in Austin.
On the Mend...
Senior guard Julie Lake suffered a cracked left elbow against TCU on Dec. 9 and it was anticipated that she would be out of action for four weeks. Lake is being re-evaluated within this coming week.
Junior forward Aleah Johnson was diagnosed with a viral infection of the heart on Dec. 17 and will be out of action indefinitely. Johnson is scheduled to be re-evaluated on Jan. 8.
Freshman center Alison Cudnoski suffered a torn ACL in her right knee in late October. She will be undergoing surgery in early January.
Climbing up the Ladder...
After opening the 1998-99 season with a preseason ranking of #12, the Lady Raiders have steadily climbed up in the polls since November. In the weeks following, Texas Tech spent time at #14, #15, #12, #10, and currently hold the eighth position in both Associated Press and USA Today/ESPN poll for the week of Dec. 28.
A Look Ahead ...
After the brief stint in Waco, Texas Tech returns home for two home games - Jan. 6 against Oklahoma (7:00 p.m. start) and Jan. 9 against Kansas State (3:00 p.m.). The Kansas State contest will also be televised on FOX Sports Southwest (cable).

Senior post Angie Braziel collected her fourth double-double of the season against New Mexico. She recorded it in the 1st half of the contest and finished with 23 points and 13 rebounds. Junior forward Keitha Dickerson also tallied her second double-double of the season with 11 points and 11 rebounds vs. the Lobos.
The Lady Raiders have won 10 consecutive games and 23 of its last 25 games, dating back to Feb. 4, 1998.
Sophomore guard Katrisa ONeal tied a career-high with 14 points vs. New Mexico.
Head coach Marsha Sharp needs 13 victories to eclipse the 400-career win mark. During her previous 16 years as head coach at Tech, Sharp has averaged 23.5 wins per season.
Senior guard Rene Hanebutt currently holds the 11th spot on Techs all-time career scoring list with 1,156 points. The Bowie, Texas, native tied a season-high with 20 points against New Mexico.
The Lady Raiders allowed no Lobo players to score in double figures Tuesday evening. The last time that took place was on Jan. 17, 1998, as Tech held all Colorado players to single-digit scoring. Tech defeated Colorado, 80-40, in Lubbock.
Freshman guard Amber Tarr scored a career-high six points and grabbed a career-high four rebounds vs. New Mexico in 12 minutes of play.
Senior post Angie Braziel tallied a career-high six blocks against the Lobos.
Senior guard Rene Hanebutt has had the hot hand from three-point range, hitting 17-of-33 (51.5%) over the last four games. She leads the Big 12 Conference in three-point field goal per. (46.8%)
