On the Road Again for the Lady Raiders ...
After a home win against #14 Iowa State on Wednesday, #6 Texas Tech heads back on the road to face the Kansas Jayhawks for a televised afternoon tilt. The Lady Raiders are playing their third conference road game in four games while Kansas is hosting its third home conference game after four road games. Tech is 7-1 on the road while the Jayhawks are undefeated in Allen Fieldhouse this season (6-0).

Lady Raider Head Coach Marsha Sharp
One of the most respected and well-known coaches in Texas Tech history, head coach Marsha Sharp is 393-126 (.757) in her 17th year at the helm of the Lady Raiders. The 1998 Big 12 Coach of the Year, she has led the Lady Raiders to eight NCAA Tournament appearances, seven consecutive and five NCAA Sweet 16 appearances in six years, including the NCAA National Championship in 1993. While in the SWC, Coach Sharp and the Lady Raiders never finished below third, they won or shared the last five championships, and they captured three Post Season Classic titles. Sharp captured her 350th career victory during the 1997 NCAA Tournament when on March 16 Tech defeated Montana, 47-45, in Palo Alto, Calif.
A 1974 graduate of Wayland Baptist University, Sharp was named National Coach of the Year in 1993 and 1994. She also reaped SWC Coach of the Year honors seven times, five consecutively. Sharp needs seven victories to eclipse the 400 career-win mark.

Wrap-Up of the TTU-Iowa State Game
The sixth-ranked Texas Tech Lady Raiders' defense suffocated 14th-ranked Iowa State (13-2, 5-1 Big 12) in the first half of Wednesday night's contest, holding the Cyclones to nine first-half points, to win the Big 12 showdown, 71-47, in front of a capacity crowd of 8,174 at Lubbock Municipal Coliseum.
The Lady Raiders (17-1, 6-0 Big 12) built a 28-9 halftime lead by tallying nine steals and four blocked shots, and holding Iowa State to 11 percent shooting from the field in the first half. Melinda Schmucker and Keitha Dickerson combined for 16 points and seven steals to spark Texas Tech in the opening period.
The Lady Raiders' leading scorer Angie Braziel was held to two points in the first half, but finished with a team-high 14.
Schmucker was the only other Lady Raider to reach double digits in scoring with 10 points to go along with four assists and four steals. Dickerson led the team with nine rebounds.
Iowa State's Desiree Francis led all scorers in the game with 16 points on the night.
About Kansas
Head coach Marian Washington is in her 26th season at the helm of the Jayhawks. The Big 12 preseason pick to win the league title, Kansas enters Saturday's game with a 13-6, 3-3 Big 12 record. The Jayhawks are struggling a bit, having lost their last three of four games - all three games were on the road. For the first time this season, Kansas dropped out of the Associated Press' top 25 poll.
The Jayhawks are led by junior forward Lynn Pride who scores a team-high 18.7 points and 7.1 rebounds per game. She ranks fifth in the league in scoring and ninth in rebounds. Pride is fifth among the conference leaders in steals and 10th in field goal percentage.
As a team, Kansas hits nearly 45% of its field goals, but shoots only 28.9% from three-point range. KU opponents hit 70.9% of its free throws and have 26 fewer fouls than the Jayhawks. Kansas scores 66.5 points per game and allows 60.9 opponent points. The Jayhawks rank 11th in the league in scoring offense, but second in scoring defense.
The Series Record...
The young history between Texas Tech and Iowa State finds the series knotted at 2-2. The Lady Raiders have won the last two games against the Jayhawks - both took place last season. Tech defeated Kansas, 72-56, in Lubbock on Jan. 24. The Lady Raiders clinched the Big 12 Conference tournament title with a 71-53 win over Kansas on March 7 in Kansas City.
Climbing up the Ladder... After opening the 1998-99 season with a preseason ranking of #12, the Lady Raiders have steadily climbed up in the polls since November. In the weeks following, Texas Tech spent time at #14, #15, #12, #10, #8, #7 and is in its second week at the sixth position in the Associated Press and seventh in the USA Today/ESPN poll.
Winning at home in conference play
The Lady Raiders have won 18 straight conference games in the Lubbock Municipal Coliseum. The last loss Tech suffered at home was to Oklahoma State on Jan. 8, 1997. Prior to that loss, Tech had won 26 straight conference match-ups in "The Bubble."
A Look Ahead ...
The Lady Raiders continue their road swing with a game against Oklahoma in Norman on Wednesday, Jan. 27. Game time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Tech returns home to face the Baylor Bears on Saturday, Jan. 30 for a 7:00 p.m. tip.

· The Lady Raiders have won 16 consecutive games and 29 of their last 31 games, dating back to Feb. 4, 1998. The Lady Raiders are off to their best start ever, surpassing a 15-1 start by the 1993-94 Lady Raider squad. Techs longest winning streak is 24 games which took place during the 1992-93 season and the 1983-84 season.
· Head coach Marsha Sharp needs seven victories to eclipse the 400-career win mark. During her previous 16 years as head coach at Tech, Sharp has averaged 23.5 wins per season.
· Wednesdays 71-47 win over #14 Iowa State was Techs first win over a top-25 team this season. Tech faced #15 old Dominion in November and lost, 85-64.
· Texas Tech has won 19 consecutive Big 12 Conference games.
· Iowa States nine first-half points was the fewest allowed by Texas Tech since January 13, 1993 when Houston scored 11 first-half points against the Lady Raiders in Lubbock. Tech defeated Houston, 93-41.
· Sophomore guard Katrisa ONeal comes into Saturdays game with a career 130 steals - good for 10th on Techs all-time career list for steals. She needs six more steals to move into ninth.
· Balanced scoring by the Lady Raiders was evident against Iowa State. Those who played at least five minutes scored at least three points.
· Tech attempted a season-high 19 three-point field goal attempts against Iowa State.
· After 18 games last season, the Lady Raiders posted a 14-4 record.
