Loyola Marymount Defeats Texas Tech 6-3

LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Loyola Marymount handed No. 13 Texas Tech a 6-3 defeat at George Page Stadium Monday evening in Los Angeles. The loss drops No. 13 ranked Texas Tech to 6-3 overall while Loyola Marymount improvedto 4-5 on the season.
Texas Tech takes a day off to travel to San Diego to play in the San Diego State Classic this week. The Red Raiders will play four games in four days including games against San Diego, San Diego State, Oregon State and UCLA.
Trailing 2-0 in the top of the sixth inning, Texas Tech battled back to tie the game at 2-2 with a Jon Weber home run. Ryan Ruiz singled and Weber followed with his fourth home run over the left centerfield wall. The Red Raider scored one run in the eighth inning when Lance Woodcock scored on Josh Bard's RBI single. The Raiders couldn't take advantage of a bases loaded situation in the eighth inning.
Loyola Marymount's Michael Schultz (2-0) pitched 7 2/3 innings and allowed 10 hits and three runs (3 ER) for the win. Chris Gray pitched the final 1 1/3 innings for his first save of the season.
Loyola Marymount put the game out of reach with a three-run seventh inning. The Lions used an RBI single from Curt Fiore and a sacrifice fly RBI from Jacob Minter. The rally was sparked by a triple steal in which Matt Riordan stole home on a Steve Rowe pitch.
Weber led Texas Tech with his home run and 2-4, two RBI performance. Josh Bard went 2-4 with an RBI and double while Marco Cunningham, Mark Austry and Scott Holzhauer each went 1-3. Allen Marshall, Miles Durham and Ryan Ruiz each went 1-4.
Texas Tech reliever Steve Rowe (0-1) earned the loss after pitching 3 1/3 innings and allowing four hits and four earned runs. He struck out six batters. Cesar Gutierrez went the first 3 2/3 innings while Daniel Cole pitched the final inning.
