Men's Golf Finishes Strong at Kansas Invitational

LUBBOCK, Texas -- The Texas Tech University men's golf team fired a final-round 301 to improve dramatically over its first-round score in the Kansas Invitational Tournament.
The Red Raiders finished 16th in the 17-team field, but improved 17 strokes over their first-round score. Tech fired a 318 total in the first round, but managed a 13-over-par 301 today to finish at 64-over 928.
The teams completed the second round today after a rain delay on Monday. Tech posted a second-round 309, nine strokes better than the first round.
Tournament host Kansas claimed an easy 19-stroke win, firing a 9-under 855 total. Iowa State (874) finished second, and Arkansas State (880) third. Oral Roberts (882) and Nebraska tied for fourth. Baylor (887) finished seventh, Missouri (896) 11th, and Kansas State (911) 13th.
Individually, Texas Tech's Matt Loving and Sean Mulherin tied for 62nd with 231 totals. Mulherin fired a 2-over 74 today, Texas Tech's best 18-hole score of the 54-hole tournament. Loving fired a 3-over 75 in the second round. Philp Tate (233) tied for 72nd, while Alex Armstrong (234) tied for 75th. Blake Smith (239) finished 88th. 16 Texas Tech 318-309-301=928
