No. 13 Texas Tech Baseball Defeats TCU 8-3

LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech used two Allen Marshall home runs and and an eight-inning five-hit pitching performance from All America senior Shane Wright to defeat TCU 8-3 at Texas Tech's Dan Law Field. No. 13 Texas Tech improved to 5-0 while TCU dropped to 2-3 on the young season.
Texas Tech departs for California and an eight-game road swing on Thursday. The Red Raiders will play a three-game series at Southern California from Feb. 12-14 and against Loyola Marymount on Feb. 15. Game times for the Southern California series have been changed to 3 p.m. PT on Friday, 1 p.m. PT on Saturday and 1 p.m. PT on Sunday.
Marshall sparked Texas Tech in the first inning with a three-run home run. Ryan Ruiz and Josh Bard both got on base with a single and walk respectively for Marshall who drove them in with a shot over the left field fence. The home run gave Tech a 3-2 lead. Marshall hit his second home run, a solo shot over the leftfield fence, in the fifth inning to give Tech a 4-2 lead. The junior third baseman from Sebastopol, Calif., finished the day at 3-4 with four RBI and two runs scored.
Wright (2-0) earned the victory after pitching his second consecutive eight-inning contest. He struck out seven batters and allowed only five hits, three runs (two earned runs). He walked only one batter. Wright also became Texas Tech's all-time winningest career pitcher with the victory. The victory was Wright's 26th of his career as he surpassed Matt Miller's 25, set from 1994-96. Sophomore transfer Clancy Fossum pitched the final inning for Texas Tech.
Tech put the game away with two more runs following Marshall's home run in the fifth inning. Junior centerfielder Marco Cunningham nailed a two-RBI double to put Tech up 8-2. Cunningham went 1-5 with two RBI, Ryan Ruiz finished 2-2 with a run scored, Josh Bard went 1-3 with two runs scored, David O'Keeffe went 3-4 with an RBI and a run scored and Chris Sampson went 1-4.
