LUBBOCK, Texas - Oklahoma State used a seven-run fourth inning to cruise to a 12-3 Saturday victory against Texas Tech before 4,520 fans at Dan Law Field. The Cowboys' victory ended Texas Tech's 12-game home conference win streak and dropped the Red Raiders to 40-12 overall and 18-7 in Big 12 play. Oklahoma State improved to 39-15 overall and 17-9 in the Big 12. The loss was the worst suffered by Texas Tech this season. The previous loss was a 7-0 shutout at Missouri on March 5.
The Cowboys jumped on top in the fourth inning with seven runs thanks to consecutive two-RBI singles from Billy Gasparino and Josh Holliday. The next batter, Toby Rhodes, drew a walk, Carlos Gautreaux was hit by pitch and Kevin Lucas singled. That set the table for Gasparino's and Holliday's back-to-back singles. Texas Tech went through four pitchers- starter Brad Ralston, Clancy Fossum, Steve Rowe and Zach Stewart- while trying to get out of the inning.
Oklahoma State starter Thom Dreier held Texas Tech scoreless in six innings of work. He allowed four hits, two walks and struck out seven in improving his record to 8-3 on the season. Stu Hunt entered the game in the seventh inning and allowed one earned run and four hits in three complete innings. Texas Tech finally got on the scoreboard in the eighth when Josh Bard led off with a single, Chaz Eiguren singled and Mark Austry drove Bard in on a single. An dropped fly ball allowed two more Red Raider runs.
