- Coach Marsha Sharp:
"One of the things we were most interested in doing tonight was to improve our foul situation. I felt like we did a better job with that. UTSA runs a lot of motion offense so we really had to come out and get on them, in particular our posts had to come off the blocks. I was real interested to see if they could come out and do that without getting into foul trouble. I think that was a high point of the game that we were able to keep them on the floor a little bit longer. We really didn't get the offensive production we wanted from our post players tonight. I thought we didn't shoot the basketball very well tonight. I think we are getting a little bit closer to adjusting to the officiating, and we will take another look at it this weekend at Rice to see what else we need to do. Our starters played with more continuity and we didn't turn over the ball as much. When we brought people off the bench, I was pretty pleased with how they got up and down the floor and got into our offenses and defenses. I was excited we were able to give Amber Tarr 13 minutes. She is really going to be a good player in our program. I thought she played pretty consistently the whole time she was on the floor."
This weekend's match-ups: "It will be a tough weekend. Wisconsin is a tough physical team with a lot of athleticism, they can move up and down the floor. They can bring people off the bench that can match up with us. They have a player that is similar to Lynn Pride, it will be really good for us to defend her in this game to try and prepare what we will face when we play Kansas. Rice is always tough to play at home and they will be really excited at an opportunity to play in that championship game. It will be a good experience for us."
"We feel we are two deep in every position and we are going to let them play. With that in mind, we felt we could go up with the tempo a little bit because we needed to create some offense off our defense. We felt all along that was our strength."
On new officiating: "Our focus this week in practice has been to really move our feet more and play without our hands. We are trying to give us a little more cushion."
On free-throw shooting: "We shot them well tonight and we shot them pretty well at home. We had one game where we shot horrible, I think about 59%,so we have been a little inconsistent. I was really pleased we shot them that well tonight. I think it will be important for us because we are taking it to the basket more and able to go to the free-throw line in relation to the way they have called it so far. It will be an important part of the game to stick free throws in the hole."
Rene Hanebutt:
On the new officiating: "Really, I think it is probably to our advantage, especially on the perimeter. People are always trying to get up underneath us, so maybe that will keep that from happening. Last year in the Big 12, I got beat up and pushed a lot, maybe that will keep that from happening also."
On team: "I think we are getting better and better at every practice and every game. I feel that this team is the most talented team I have been on at Texas Tech and I feel we have the opportunity to do great things. We've got a lot of work to do but people are willing to do that work. Im really excited about this team. Last year our focus was to get to the Final Four, and this year our focus is pretty much the same."
Melinda Schmucker: On new officiating: "We have to learn to just get out there with our forearm and that is something we have to practice in practice so that in a game we are ready.
on team: "Everybody comes in and gives a 110% and that is all you can ask. No matter what, whether you are on the floor or on the bench, you know that everyone is out there giving their best."
