Raiders Ready For Big 12 Home Opener After starting Big 12 play on the road against Baylor and returning to Lubbock with two disappointing losses to the Bears, the Red Raiders are eager to begin conference play on their home turf. Texas Tech enters this week with a 24-21 season record after splitting two game with New Mexico State in Las Cruces, New Mexico, last weekend. The Raiders are being led at the plate by junior transfer Kristi Tunnell who is averaging .348 at the season. Leading the charge at the mound is sophomore Amanda Renfro. Renfro has 193 strikeouts and a 1.65 ERA on the season.
On Mizzou After a disappointing ninth place performance in the Big 12 last season, the Missouri Tigers have been making a lot of noise thus far in the Big 12 race. The #25 ranked Tigers will come to Lubbock on Saturday sporting a 27-12 overall record and a 3-1 record in the Big 12. Missouri is being led at the plate by Shawna Robinson who has a .346 average on 104 at-bats this season. The Tiger pitching is being led by Stephanie Falk and Christy Caccavo. Falk has totaled 120 strikeouts on the season and sports a 1.03 ERA while Caccavo has 43 strikeouts in 15 games and an ERA of 1.88.
The Tigers are coached by Jay Miller. The last meeting between the two teams came on March 29, 1998 when Tech defeated Missouri 2-1. Missouri lead the all-time series with a 5-2 record against Texas Tech.
On the Jayhawks When Texas Tech faces Kansas on Sunday, the Raiders will have a certain revenge factor on their minds. Texas Tech dropped a 0-1 decision to the Jayhawks earlier in the season at the Hillenbrand Invitational Tournament at the University of Arizona. Tech held the Jayhawks scoreless through nine innings until Shelly Musser left field double brought in the winning run. Kansas is being led at the plate by freshmen Shelly Musser who is averaging .290 on 107 at-bats this season. Junior pitcher Sarah Workman continues to lead the Jayhawk pitching attack with 121 strikeouts and a 1.50 ERA on the season.
The Jayhawks are coached by Tracy Bungue who is in her third season at the helm of the Kansas program. Kansas holds the all-time series record at 2-7.
Last Time Out Texas Tech took a 23-20 season record into Las Cruces last Wednesday looking for a two game sweep of the Roadrunners. Tech seemed to be on their way after posting a 3-1 victory in game one of the doubleheader. But things didn't go the way the Raiders hoped they would in the nightcap as Tech fell to the Roadrunners 0-2 after a two-run homerun by Barbie Eitel. Eitel's homerun was just the second hit of the evening for New Mexico State.
