FRESNO, CA - The Texas Tech softball team got their second straight victory in the NCAA tournament with a 1-0 shutout over the Pacific Tigers.
The Red Raiders (35-29) will take on top-seeded and second-ranked Fresno State (62-8) on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at the Bulldog Diamond in Fresno, Ca.
Texas Tech got things going early in the game when sophomore lead-off hitter Sandy Butler reached first base of an error by the Pacific second basemen Natalie Farmer. Second basemen Jenny Kohler advanced Butler to second base off a sacrifice bunt and Kim Martinez got on base after being hit by a wild pitch by Tiger pitcher Brandee McArthur. On the next at-bat, senior designated player Aimee Weathers brought in the game-winning run with a sacrifice bunt.
"This is a great win," said Tech head coach Renee Luers-Gillispie. "It is really hard to beat someone three consecutive times. Our girls hung in there and played extremely well. Fresno State will be tough. They are well coached and have great tradition here. But, I think we are ready to play."
Sophomore pitcher Amanda Renfro, coming off last night's perfect game, struckout six batters while giving up just three hits in seven innings.
