Red Raider Softball Team Splits with Southwest Texas

LUBBOCK, Texas --In their 1998 home opener, the Texas Tech softball team defeated Southwest Texas State 3-0, before losing by the same score in game two. The Red Raiders are now 6-2 on the season, while Southwest Texas is currently standing at 3-6.
Tech got off to a quick start as they scored two runs in the first inning of game one. A triple by senior Denise Jackson brought in freshman Sandy Butler and junior Amiee Weathers. The following inning saw Tech tally another run as sophomore Paula Workman stole home to bring the score to 3-0. Freshman pitcher Amanda Renfro was awarded the win after pitching seven innings with seven strikeouts, one hit and no walks.
In game two, Tech and Southwest Texas took a 0-0 tie into the eighth inning before a single by Michelle Quintanar and an error by Tech centerfielder Sandy Butler scored two runs for the Bobcats. The final run came moments later when Lindsay Carroll re-entered for Quintanar and scored on an error by Tech second baseman Jenny Kohler. Tech senior Danielle Brady was saddled with the loss.
