Texas Tech is one of just two schools to have student-athletes named to watchlist
LUBBOCK, Texas – USA Softball dwindled its list of 25 to 10 for the Player of the Year Watchlist today. The list featured two Red Raiders in NiJaree Canady and Kaitlyn Terry, the first time two Texas Tech players have been named to the list and the third time that Canady has been named to the top 10 in her career. Tech joins UCLA as one of two schools to have multiple players named to the list.
Two of the most dominant players in the game and one of the best pitching duos in the country have led the Red Raiders to their best regular season record (52-6) in program history, their second-straight Big 12 Regular Season Title and their second-straight NCAA Regional in Lubbock.
Canady and Terry rank sixth and seventh respectively in ERA, Canady boasting a 1.25 and Terry a 1.30. They also rank top 10 in wins, both with 22 and are third and fourth in the country in WHIP, Canady with a .79 and Terry a .81. Canady is also top 10 in the country in strikeouts (209) and strikeouts per seven innings (10.0).
Terry also ranks top 10 in the country in batting average, hitting .471 on the year and set the school record for consecutive games with a hit (24) earlier this season. Terry has 72 hits, 10 home runs and 52 RBI on the year as she has proven to be one of the best two-way stars in the game.
