LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech baseball assistant coach Marty Lamb announced yesterday that he has taken a regional scouting job with the Los Angeles Dodgers. Lamb will relocate to Lexington, Ky where he will be a regional scout for the Dodgers, covering the Ohio, Kentucky and Tennessee regions.
"We are sad to see Marty go," Texas Tech head coach Larry Hays said. "At the same time, we are happy for Marty because he got a great job with the Dodgers and we wish him well. He will surely be missed. Marty will make an outstanding scout."
Lamb leaves Texas Tech after serving two consecutive years with head coach Larry Hays' Texas Tech baseball program. He worked primarily with the Red Raider outfielders and hitters. Lamb arrived at Texas Tech after serving two seasons as an assistant coach at the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg, Miss., where he was hitting instructor for the Golden Eagles. He also performed duties as the weight program coordinator and handled responsibilities in public relations and licensing. Originally from Aurora, Colo., Lamb joined the Southern Mississippi staff in the 1994 season.
Prior to that opportunity Lamb was named head coach at Bay Springs, Miss., High School for the 1993 and 1994 seasons. In 1992 he was a graduate assistant coach at Mississippi State under legendary college baseball coach Ron Polk where he had responsibilities with hitters and outfielders. He earned a Master's degree in education- with an emphasis in teaching- from Mississippi State in 1994 and completed his undergraduate work at the University of Northern Colorado, graduating with a Bachelor's of Arts degree in Kinesiology in 1991. While at Northern Colorado he served as a student assistant coach and worked with the pitchers.
His coaching background also includes stints with two semi-pro clubs. He was an assistant coach in 1988 with the Colorado Bears and helped lead that team to the Stan Musial championships. He also coached for the Bentura County Royals in 1987. Lamb is a 1984 graduate of Overland High School in his hometown of Aurora, Colo. As a three-year baseball letterman as an outfielder and pitcher, Lamb was named first-team All-Centennial League selection as a senior. He also lettered twice on the Overland football team and was named honorable mention All-Centennial League as a tight end. Two years at Ventura Junior College in California followed, where Lamb pitched and played outfield and first base. Lamb is married to the former Jerri Ann Rogers of Fayetteville, Arkansas. --TTU--
