Texas Tech Baseball Splits with TCU

FORT WORTH, Texas - The Texas Tech baseball team split two games with TCU on Tuesday and Wednesday, winning the first game 9-2 (Feb. 10) and losing the second game 12-10 (Feb. 11). The split puts Texas Tech at 4-2 heading into its weekend series at home against Long Beach State. Game times for this weekend are 3 p.m. (Friday), 12 noon (Saturday) and 2 p.m. (Sunday). TCU is now 3-3.
In game one, Texas Tech received an outstanding performance from pitcher Monty Ward and used four home runs including a Jason Landreth grand slam in the third inning to take a 9-2 victory over TCU. Ward (2-0) earned his second victory on the season after pitching 6.0 innings and allowing only two hits and a run. He struck out seven batters. Landreth finished 2-4 with three runs scored and four RBI. Tech hit four home runs on the day including shots by Keith Ginter, Mark Austry and an inside-the-park home run by Miles Durham. Several Red Raiders finished with multi-hit days including Ginter (2-4), Austry (2-4), Josh Bard (2-5) and Kevin Jordan (2-2).
TCU jumped out to an early 8-3 lead in the third inning of game two and never looked back, securing a 12-10 home victory. Bard finished the game 3-5, Landreth belted two doubles and went 2-4 with three RBI, Junior Rodriguez went 2-4 with two RBI and two runs scored, Brennan Burns finished 2-4, Kevin Jordan went 2-4 and Jason Huth added a 3-5 day with two RBI and a triple. Starter Cade Allison (0-1) earned the loss as five Texas Tech pitchers played in the game. Red Raider pitching walked 11 TCU batters.
