LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech baseball team has scheduled a game against Lubbock Christian University Sunday beginning at 2 p.m. at Dan Law Field. Texas Tech enters the game at 39-11.
Texas Tech head coach Larry Hays scheduled the game to make up for four rained out games on the schedule.
The contest will feature a matchup between Texas Tech head coach Larry Hays and son Daren Hays, head coach of Lubbock Christian. The elder Hays coached at Lubbock Christian for 16 years (1971-1986) where he led LCU to the NAIA national championship in 1983 and amassed a 695-381 record. He then moved to Texas Tech in 1987 where he has compiled a 501-253-1 record.
It is the first such scheduled matchup between the two schools since April 13, 1993 when Texas Tech defeated Lubbock Christian 8-2. Texas Tech trails the all-time series against Lubbock Christian 16-18-0 while Larry Hays is 1-1 vs. the Chaps. Hays lost an 8-3 decision to Lubbock Christian on April 14, 1992. In April, Lubbock Christian renamed their baseball field "Hays Field" in honor of Hays family.
As usual the game will broadcasted live on Lubbock's own KKAM Radio with Mark Finkner and Ryan Hyatt making the call.
Texas Tech returns to action this weekend (May 14-16) for its final regular season series against Oklahoma State. Games times are 7 p.m. on Friday, 2 p.m. on Saturday and 1 p.m. on Sunday.
