Texas Tech Baseball to Play TCU on Tuesday

LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech (4-0, 0-0 Big 12) will begin its week with a Tuesday 3 p.m. game at Dan Law Field against WAC opponent TCU. Righthanded No. 1 starter Shane Wright (1-0) will start Tuesday against TCU.
The Red Raiders will then travel to California on Thursday to begin their eight-game road trip to USC (3-game series), Loyola Marymount (1-game) and the San Diego State Classic (4-games).
Texas Tech will fly to Los Angeles to play USC on the weekend (Feb. 12-14), drive to Loyola Marymount (also in Los Angeles) for a Feb. 15 game, then drive down the coast to San Diego to play in the San Diego State Baseball Classic at Tony Gwynn Stadium. The Raiders will play at San Diego (Feb. 17), at San Diego State (Feb. 18) and then Oregon State (Feb. 19) and No. 16 UCLA (Feb. 20).
WEBER SETS BIG 12 SERIES RBI MARK...Weber finishes weekend with 20 RBI in four games!
Junior outfielder Jon Weber set a Big 12 Conference RBI record for a series against Howard this weekend when he drove in 20 RBI in the four-game series.
RAIDERS TIE SCHOOL WALKS RECORD...Texas Tech ties school game bases-on-balls record with 17 walks on Saturday vs. Howard
Howard pitching yielded 17 bases-on-balls Saturday in Texas Techs 16-5 victory against the Bison. The 17 walks ties the Texas Tech school record of 17 walks also set on Feb. 14, 1995 vs. West Texas A&M and on March 23, 1996 vs. Baylor.
WEBER FINISHES OFF BIG WEEK
For the first week of the season, Weber finished with a .529 average (9-17) with eight runs scored, four doubles, three home runs (two grand slams), 22 total bases and an incredible 20 runs batted in in four games. Several other Red Raiders capped off outstanding weeks (see statistics on back sheet).
TECH SWEEPS HOWARD WITH 27-2 WIN...Raiders win first series by combined score of 81-11
The Texas Tech Red Raider baseball team finished off Howard on Sunday with a 27-2 victory at Dan Law Field. Texas Tech improved to 4-0 on the young season while Howard dropped to 0-7.
Texas Tech used an eight-run fourth inning and a 10-run sixth inning to defeat Howard for the fourth consecutive game. For the series Texas Tech outscored Howard 81-11, outhit the Bison 74-26 and had 132 total bases to Howards 43. The Red Raiders batted .465 (74-159) in the four-game series compared to Howards .197 (26-132).
Saturday, Texas Tech walked 17 times to tie a school record for offensive bases-on-balls.
Junior outfielder Jon Weber led Texas Tech again with a seven-RBI day. He drove in one run on a sacrifice fly to centerfield in the fourth inning, drove in two more on a fifth inning single and finished off his day with his second grand slam of the weekend, a shot to centerfield. For the first week of the season, Weber finished with a .529 average (9-17) with eight runs scored, four doubles, three home runs (two grand slams), 22 total bases and an incredible 20 runs batted in in four games.
Texas Tech also got solid pitching from starter Kevin Tracey (1-0) who shut out the visiting Bison and limited them to three hits, one walk in six innings pitched. Tracey earned the victory and also struck out four batters. Tech also used five other pitchers in game including freshman Steve Rowe, sophomore Clancy Fossum, senior Zach Stewart, freshman Daniel Cole and junior Chris Sampson.
The Red Raiders also had several other standouts on Saturdays game. Leadoff hitter Marco Cunningham went 2-r with three RBI and three runs scored. He also had a three-RBI double in the fourth inning. Ryan Ruiz went 3-3 with three runs scored, three RBI and two walks, Josh Bard finished 3-4 with three runs and an RBI, Allen Marshall went 3-5 with two RBI and four runs scored, Miles Durham went 4-6 with three runs, a home run and three RBI and David OKeeffe went 3-5 with three RBI and two runs. Brennan Burns went 1-3 and Chris Sampson added three runs on 1-5 hitting.
Texas Tech (4-0) needed only one more run to tie the schools runs per inning record of 11 in the sixth. Howard broke the shutout with two runs in the ninth inning on a two-run home run by James Perry.

TECH EARNS PRESEASON AWARDS...Baseball America picks Red Raiders to finish second in Big 12 Conference
The Texas Tech Red Raider baseball was selected finish second in the Big 12 Conference this season by Baseball Americas college baseball preview magazine. Texas A&M, the 1998 Big 12 regular season champions, was voted to win the conference, followed by Texas Tech (2nd), Oklahoma State (3rd), Baylor (4th), Texas (5th), Missouri (6th), Oklahoma (7th), Nebraska (8th), Kansas (9th), Iowa State (10th) and Kansas State (11th). Texas Tech hosts both Texas A&M and Oklahoma State this season at Dan Law Field in Lubbock.
Texas Tech also collected some individual preseason honors by Baseball America. The magazine listed four Red Raiders for preseason all-conference honors including catcher Josh Bard, third baseman Brennan Burns, outfielder Miles Durham and starting pitcher Shane Wright. Bard was mentioned as the second-best draft pick in the upcoming 1999 Major League Baseball draft, while Durham was voted the conferences third pick in the 2000 Major League Baseball draft. The magazine also rated each conferences "Best Tools." Bard was voted the leagues "best pure hitter" and "best catcher-arm", shortstop and newcomer Chris Sampson was voted the "fastest runner", and Wright was labelled as the pitcher with "best control."
Texas Tech (44-20/18-11 last season) was picked by Collegiate Baseball as the favorite to win the Big 12 championship. The Red Raiders will enter the 1999 season ranked 13th nationally by Collegiate Baseball, 19th by Baseball America and 20th by Baseball Weekly/ESPN.
Tech will begin its season with the annual alumni game on Saturday, January 30, 1999 at 3 p.m. Texas Tech baseball alums expected to return to Dan Law Field include Mark Brandenburg, Joe Dillon, Monty Ward and Clint Bryant.

BASEBALL SEASON TICKETS ON SALE...Season, Big 12 ticket packages on sale for 1999 season
The Texas Tech ticket office announced that season tickets for the 1999 Texas Tech baseball season are currently on sale. Tickets for the entire 31 regular season home schedule at Dan Law Field are $125. Season tickets for faculty and staff members are $100. There is also a Big 12 Conference package available for $90. This package includes five three-game weekend conference series and 15 total home games. Big 12 schools visiting Texas Tech this season include Kansas (Feb. 26-28), Texas A&M (March 12-14), Iowa State (April 2-4), Nebraska (April 30-May 2) and Oklahoma State (May 14-16).
Tickets for individual games will also go on sale by order following the first home series against Howard (Feb. 5-7). Individual game tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for students.
Texas Tech which finished 44-20 last year, won the Big 12 Tournament title and appeared in an NCAA Regional for the fourth consecutive year, will enter the season nationally ranked 13th by Collegiate Baseball, 19th by Baseball America and 20th by USA Baseball Weekly (coaches poll). The final college baseball poll, selected by The Sporting News, has yet to be released. Two All America players in catcher Josh Bard and righthanded pitcher Shane Wright return to the squad.
Big 12 Tournament tickets are also available through the Oklahoma City All Sports Association. The tournament will be held May 19-23 in Oklahoma Citys Southwestern Bell Ballpark in Bricktown. Ticket prices for the Big 12 Tournament are: Box Seats- All Session $80, Individual Game $15; Reserved Seats- All Session $60, Individual Game $12; General Admission- All Session $40, Individual Game $7. GAME TIMES CHANGE FOR BAYLOR SERIES...Baylor changes night game times to afternoon times
The Texas Tech baseball series at Baylor, from March 26-28, has had some time changes, Bears coach Steve Smith announced Friday. Baylors baseball field, currently undergoing renovations, will not have its stadium lighting installed for the series, so all three game times have changed to 2 p.m. (see updated schedule below). Originally the Friday and Saturday games were both scheduled for 7 p.m.
