Texas Tech Eliminated From Big 12

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - Texas Tech was eliminated from the Big 12 Tournament with an 8-7 loss to Missouri Thursday at the Ballpark in Bricktown. It was the first time since 1993 that Texas Tech was eliminated from a conference tournament in two games.
Texas Tech, which ties its season-long losing streak of four games, drops to 40-15 overall while Missouri improves to 36-18 and stays alive in tournament action. The game was the longest in Big 12 Tournament history and Texas Tech's longest of the season. The Red Raiders are now 0-2 in extra inning ballgames.
Missouri won the game in the bottom of the 12th inning when Dustin Barnes was hit by pitch. Sam Ketelson, who was put into to pinch run, advanced to second on a wild pitch by Brandon Roberson. He advanced to third on W. T. Hoover's sacrifice bunt and scored on Jason Epstein's RBI single. Epstein finished the day 4-7 with two runs and three RBI.
The Red Raiders battled back from a 7-4 deficit with a Josh Bard home run to left centerfield. Bard ended the afternoon 2-5 with four RBI and extended his hitting streak to 10 games. Chris Sampson, who started his first-ever game in rightfield, ignited Texas Tech with a 3-5 RBI afternoon. Chaz Eiguren hit a solo home run in the sixth and the Red Raiders also scored two runs in the third on an RBI groundout from Sampson and an RBI single from Bard.
Roberson (2-4) took the loss for Texas Tech. He went the final 6 1/3 innings and allowed seven hits and one run. Missouri's Chris George (4-3) earned the victory as he struck out eight batters, allowed no runs and two hits in 5 2/3 innings.
Texas Tech is next in action as its hosts the NCAA Regional in Lubbock from May 28-30. Friday's games begin at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. Four teams will compete for the right to play in the Super Regionals.
